Job Summary: Oversee nursing activities and assignments; organize and assign responsibilities based on resident population, staff qualifications, and physical structure. Oversee and monitor aides in resident care based on job requirements and resident expectations.
Reports to: Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing, and Register Nurse/s
Primary Essential Responsibilities:
- Resident Rounds: Regularly check on residents, administer medications, provide treatments, consult with physicians, and respond to emergencies.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure care and services meet all regulatory requirements.
- Ethical Leadership: Demonstrate ethical leadership, exemplifying the UZRC Core Values.
- Team Success: Facilitate team members’ success through feedback, goal setting, coaching, and coordinating necessary training.
- Policy Enforcement: Observe, interpret, apply, and enforce policies and procedures.
- Training: Assist in staff training, problem-solving, and maintain records of residents’ conditions, medications, and treatments.
- Communication: Regularly communicate with the Director of Nursing (DON) and all interdisciplinary team members.
- Promote Independence: Encourage resident participation in care and decision-making.
- Staffing: Ensure adequate staffing for all shifts.
- Service Continuity: Ensure continuity of service delivery across shifts.
- Problem-Solving: Demonstrate proactive problem-solving skills in crisis situations.
- Performance Evaluations: Provide timely staff evaluations to ensure accountability.
- Resident Care: Provide care to residents, administer medications, provide treatments, assess residents, and document appropriately.
- Leadership: Direct CNAs, ensure resident needs are met, and participate in performance improvement processes.
- Serves as charge nurse and has responsibility for overseeing total nursing activities within the facility that on any overnight tour of duty where the census does not exceed 59 residence and resource the on-call RN.
- Resident System Assessment: Monitor residents for changes, document, and report changes to RN’s physicians and POAs.
- Documentation: Complete all required documentation for residents, including test results, lab work, medication administration, and physician orders.
- Care Planning: Participate in the development of individual resident care plans, assess needs, recognize changes, and update forms timely.
- Improvement Opportunities: Identify opportunities to enhance care delivery and policy alteration.
- CNA Evaluation: Evaluate CNAs, assist in reviews, and utilize corrective action/disciplinary processes to improve care delivery in conjunction with RN.
- Patient Teaching: Provide and document patient teaching, identify learning needs related to discharge plans, new diagnoses, testing, and medications.
- Training: Attend all required in-service training, department meetings, all team meetings and maintain nursing skills, participate in additional in-services, and attend monthly Team Leader meetings and quarterly all team meetings. Timely completes all required training.
- Customer Service & Compliance: Provide excellent customer service, maintain integrity, adhere to corporate compliance, and HIPAA policy.
