OptumServe Consulting (OSC)/The Lewin Group (Lewin), a premier national healthcare and human services consulting and policy analysis firm, brings more than 50 years of experience finding answers and solving problems for leading organizations in the public, non-profit, and private sectors. OSC/Lewin's strategic and analytical services aim to help clients:

As a Senior Research Analyst, you will perform a variety of research and analysis tasks to support consulting projects for federal and state governments, health plans, associations and foundations, hospitals, and health systems.

OSC/Lewin is seeking recent graduates of bachelor’s programs in fields such as mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, epidemiology, or other quantitative fields to fill junior statistician roles to assist state and federal administrations such as the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services in evaluating and optimizing healthcare program operations through a combination of analytic and policy-driven research, modeling, and reporting.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Contribute to projects involving the application of statistical sampling such as:
    • Investigating improper Medicare and Medicaid billing
    • Estimating fund recoupment associated with auditing programs
    • Predicting improper billing for audit optimization
  • Summarize and analyze claims data
  • Perform database querying and hypothesis testing
  • Produce analytic reports on statistical issues associated with auditing programs

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree completed within the past 24 month from an accredited college/university; coursework to obtain degree must be completed prior to start of employment
  • Previous academic and/or work experience
    • Performing quantitative analysis
    • Overseeing day-to-day management of project tasks
    • Preparing presentations and reports for clients
    • Aptitude for interpreting data outputs and articulating findings
  • Experience using software for data analysis, such as SAS, Python, R, or Tableau
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office-Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with medical claims data and/or medical auditing data
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization (F-1 students with practical training and candidates requiring H-1Bs, TNs, etc. will not be considered)  

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Degree in mathematics, statistics, biostatistics, computer science, epidemiology, or other quantitative fields
  • Experience with machine learning, predictive modeling, simulation, probability, data visualization, and querying large datasets
  • Experience working with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Experience working effectively as a member of a project team
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Healthcare or human services research experience

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island or Washington residents is $56,300 to $110,400 per year. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
