Job Description
This position will provide a broad range of legal services. The Assistant General Counsel will research state, federal and local laws, regulations, administrative and court decisions and make recommendations on new or changes to policies to remain current and in compliance. Collaborate and assist the institution by giving advice and guidance regarding legal matters, internal investigations, and manage responses and correspondence with outside legal and non-legal inquiries.
- Collaborate with all Unitek Learning departments and campuses.
- Collaborate with the Compliance team to manage risk and advise on regulatory and legal issues.
- Provide counsel and advice related to private, for-profit, higher education laws and regulations, including the interpretation of statute and regulation and the development of implementation plans for new and changing laws.
- Provide regular counsel and advice regarding compliance with federal and state statutes and regulations affecting institutions of higher education.
- Promote compliance with applicable laws and regulations related to for-profit higher education, and relationships with customers, competitors and vendors.
- Provide analysis of proposed regulations and/or legislation and maintains awareness of activities that have the potential to impact the institution from both a state and federal regulatory level.
- Draft, review, and approve policies and procedures, regulations, bylaws, and other legal documents.
- Review contracts, lease, and other legal documents; research legal issues and recommend revisions as necessary. Coordinates and manages the contract review process to ensure all requisite parties review and accept contract terms prior to execution.
- Update and/or assists with the creation of new policies for all Unitek Learning colleges in compliance with all federal and state laws and organizational policies, procedures and/or practices.
- Assist in representing the institution in judicial and administrative proceedings and in negotiations and interactions with state agencies.
- Assist in the supervision of outside counsel and facilitate the advice provided by outside counsel who possesses special regulatory expertise.
- Provide guidance/assistance on internal investigations and other matters that could lead to legal action.
- Provide assistance to General Counsel on contract negotiation and document review, student and employment disputes or labor regulations handed down from the state or federal government.
- Research and drafts legal documents.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
The annual pay range for this position is $140k (minimum), $155k (midpoint), and $170k (maximum).*
*Typical hiring range is between the minimum and midpoint of the above pay range. Actual starting base pay may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, location and budget.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor Degree required
- 10 years’ experience as an attorney, preferably in Higher Education
- Maintains confidentiality of all students, associates, or company information as required
- Maintains established department policies, procedures and attends in-services and other required meetings
- Exercises care, proper use and maintenance of department equipment and supplies and identifies unsafe conditions and makes appropriate adjustments
- Maintain regular and timely attendance, reports to work as scheduled and assures time worked and/or time-off is recorded properly.
- Hybrid position that may be required to work on site in Tempe, AZ or Orange County, CA 3-5 days a week
- Some travel required

Salary : $140,000 - $170,000
