The Loan Assistant provides exceptional service to Commercial Relationship Managers bank wide and assists in gathering information required for commercial loan applications. This would include file maintenance requests, documentation for commercial and agriculture loan applications and renewals, completing ticklers to identify items and exceptions, and noting any deviations from Unity’s Loan Policy.
The Loan Assistant works collaboratively with commercial relationship staff, loan operations, compliance, and other bank departments to help create a productive, team-oriented work environment that leads to customer service excellence.

Able to prepare and close loan files; order credit reports, title work, and appraisals; record mortgages including using Simplifile; assist lenders through CreditQuest; process closed loans; and keep tickler lists current.

- Works collaboratively with Commercial Relationship Manager(s) to anticipate, identify, and collect documents needed for efficient, and timely approvals on new and existing credits.
- Provides technical advice or other assistance to Commercial Relationship Manager(s) as needed.
- As requested by the Commercial Relationship Manager(s), may schedule appointments, respond to customer inquiries, prepare written correspondence, and participates in customer meetings. This may include correspondence related to delinquencies or collection activity.
- Works collaboratively with Commercial Relationship Manager(s), loan processing, loan servicing, compliance, and other support to collect all pertinent information required for the loan presentation and to monitor the existing portfolio.
- Works directly with Commercial Relationship Manager(s) to remove administrative tasks from them so their efforts can be focused on business development. Some of these functions could include the following: processing loan disbursements, completing loan draw requests (wire transfers and general ledger tickets), loan renewal or loan extension paperwork, preparing paid loan documents, etc.
- At the direction of the Commercial Relationship Manager(s), creates and starts collateral and credit files, which may include ordering credit reports, title work, appraisals, etc.
- Accurately analyzes loan files to make sure all necessary items are in the file and communicates with Commercial Relationship Manager about missing items and creates ticklers as needed for follow up.
- Ensures that all credit files are complete, identifies any document deficiencies, and proactively resolves these issues with the Commercial Relationship Manager and Loan Processing. When needed, issues are escalated for timely resolution.
- In order to prevent renewing loans from appearing on the delinquency list, advises Commercial Relationship Manager about expiring lines of credit and assists in the renewal of these loans/lines in a timely fashion.
- Assists in performing due diligence of customers by collecting and maintaining industry data; researching industry specific information from outside sources including conversations with the borrower, industry publications, references from other banks, credit agencies, as well as accessing information through the internet.
- Maintains an active knowledge base of all of the Bank’s loan products and the Bank’s Loan Policy and procedures in order to identify exceptions to policy. This would include completing all required training, assigned, in a timely manner, related to the job function.
- As part of the overall team of bank employees, this position may be requested to assist in the support of other bank activities.
