1. EDUCATION:
HS Diploma and/or GED is required. Must be a student in an accredited Radiologic Technologist program or similar program which includes x-ray curriculum. Must have successfully passed a limited scope examination deemed appropriate by the Radiological Board or by the Arkansas State Board of Health.


2. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Prefer 1 year radiologic experience. Will perform radiologic procedures under the supervision of a Licensed Practitioner and is limited to specific parts of the human body, specific procedures, or both.

3. JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of radiographic examinations to be technically proficient in (1) chest; (2) skulls; (3) spines; (4) extremities. Must have a knowledge of radiographic equipment operations and radiation safety. Must also be knowledgeable about patient transfers and positioning techniques.

DESCRIPTION:

The technician is responsible for performing either x-rays, laboratory tests or other diagnostic tests (ECG, EKG's) PFT, Holter Monitoring, Stress Test, Pulse Oximetry, Tympanograms and routine screenings ordered by a clinic physician.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Worker must adjust to performing routine, repetitive tasks without specific supervision. Worker will be performing within a radiation area. Employee may frequently be exposed to blood, body fluids/tissues and electromagnetic radiation, gamma and x-rays as in CRT's (VDT's).

Capability to be independently mobile. Ability to manage physically aggressive patients, to transport patients on the stretcher or in a wheelchair and to move portable x-ray machine to examination site. The ability to lift 50 lbs. without assistance, reach, stoop and bend while maintaining a good mechanical body position. They should also have the ability to wear protective lead aprons and lead gloves during examinations and perform tasks for a long period of time. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate radiographic equipment. Hearing and visual acuity sufficient to perform examinations, observe patients, read monitors and documents, hear equipment alarms. Works within a limited space and in bright and low lighted examination room and to travel locally and elsewhere (including overnight stays) to attend seminars.

MENTAL EFFORT:
Position requires ability to concentrate on fine detail with constant interruption and attend to tasks for 20-45 minutes at a time. Individual must be able to understand and relate to the concepts behind specific ideas and remember multiple tasks given to self and others over long periods of time. Must be able to communicate verbally, using advanced level of vocabulary. Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients and families of all age groups, all radiology/nuclear medicine staff, referring physicians and residents, nursing scheduling, patient escort services and administration who may or may not be under physical and/or emotional stress. Frequent interaction with personnel in other departments and with vendors. The ability to maintain confidential information.
