What are the responsibilities and job description for the Van Driver, Full Time, 7 on 7 off position at Unity Health White County?
1. Education: High school graduation or equivalent required. Ability to read, use simple math skills, and write clearly and legibly.
2. Training and Experience: Minimum of two (2) years driving experience in commercial transportation, i.e., school bus, senior adult transportation service, delivery truck or over the road driving is preferred. Must have a valid driver's license, a driving record that is free of any chargeable accidents, and no more than one (1) moving violation for the past three (3) years. (A CDL is desirable but not required.) Must have proof of private insurance.
3. Job Knowledge: Must have extensive knowledge of traffic and driving rules and regulations. Must have good oral communication skills. Exhibit ability to set priorities and be flexible to meet transportation demands. Demonstrate ability to respond positively to patient issues.

DESCRIPTION:
Will drive the UNITY HEALTH Van providing patient transportation for scheduled and emergency trips. (*Emergency being defined as driving a patient to a doctor's appointment because of a non-life-threatening ailment or injury without prior notice.) Will also maintain UNITY HEALTH Van in a clean and proper running order, performing daily/weekly safety, cleaning, and operational condition inspections. Supports the organization's mission, vision, and values.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Maintains good physical and emotional well being. Job responsibilities require a moderate amount of physical work. The individual will be required to assist with lifting and moving patients, pushing of carts, wheelchairs, and other equipment; and lifting or pushing of up to 50 pounds. The individual must be able to bend over to perform certain duties, e.g., assist patient to put on footwear. The individual must also be able to maneuver throughout the halls, stairways, and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies. Interpretation of environmental input requires visual and auditory skills. A minimal amount of writing and computer entry is required. Trips to various departments will be required. Extensive time sitting behind the steering wheel of a 15-passenger bus or van. Entering and exiting van to assist patients in and out. Driving in all types of weather conditions and over all types of roadways. Requires adequate visual and hearing acuity with or without accommodations.
MENTAL EFFORT:
Able to concentrate on driving with background noise from patients/passengers. Able to understand verbal directions and instructions. Pleasant disposition is required due to extensive patient contact.
7 days on/7 days off. Must be available all hours of the day. Will be on call 40 hours/week. Salaried position. This is a temporary position for three months with the possibility of this position becoming permanent. Employment Type Full Time
