Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Medical Dosimetrist to join a dynamic radiation oncology team in Central Texas. As a Medical Dosimetrist, you will play a crucial role in generating radiation dose distributions and dose calculations for cancer treatment, working closely with the Medical Physicist and Radiation Oncologist. Key Responsibilities:
- Review patient medical histories and verify physician treatment plans, including treatment techniques, treatment volume, critical organs, and prescribed doses.
- Design detailed treatment plans using computer and manual computations to optimize radiation doses while protecting healthy organs.
- Collaborate with the Radiation Oncologist to finalize treatment plans and communicate them to Radiation Therapists for implementation.
- Work with radiation therapists to ensure accurate delivery of treatment plans, including the use of immobilization and beam modification devices.
- Maintain and monitor records of treatment plans and outcomes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with patient identification.
- Ensure the proper functioning of radiation oncology equipment, set equipment parameters, and monitor radiation safety protocols.
- Plan and produce molds, casts, and other immobilization devices for precise treatment delivery.
- Contribute to clinical research, continuously improving treatment techniques and processes.
- Maintain required continuing education, certifications, and licensure for professional qualification.
Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Medical Dosimetry program.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role.
- Certification/Licensure:
- Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board.
- Texas state license
- Experience with Varian equipment is preferred.
Key Skills:
- Advanced knowledge of radiation oncology, medical physics, and treatment planning techniques.
- Strong mathematical skills, including algebra, trigonometry, and introductory calculus.
- Proficient in using medical dosimetry equipment and performing quality assurance of radiation oncology devices.
- Ability to visualize three-dimensional concepts and apply them to the treatment planning process.
- Understanding of radiation safety protocols and Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to engage with patients and collaborate effectively with the clinical team.
- Knowledge of billing and coding basics.
- Ability to take call as required.
