Position Title: Kitchen Assistant
Job Purpose: Support the Director of Food Services in the daily operations of the Food Service Department. This role ensures that high-quality, cost-effective meals are provided to students and staff.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in overseeing food preparation, ensuring food is prepared safely and to high standards.
- Fostering a clean and efficient working environment.
- Prepare and serve meals that meet USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans or MyPlate guidelines, ensuring they are both nutritionally balanced and visually appealing.
- Actively participate in menu planning, utilizing standardized recipes to ensure variety and nutritional value.
- Maintain and organize inventory control, assist with ordering, and manage food costs to support a fiscally responsible operation.
- Support special events and coordinate with staff to deliver exceptional food service for school events.
- Ensure compliance with all food safety and sanitation standards, maintaining accurate records as required by regulatory agencies.
- Support the school’s Nutrition and Wellness Program, providing assistance with educational initiatives for students, staff, and parents.
- Help manage the school garden program and collaborate with the community for its development.
- Perform other duties, such as assisting with meal service, equipment maintenance, and administrative tasks.
- Works alongside kitchen staff, including cooks, dishwashers and prep workers.
- Help manage inventory, order supplies, and ensure proper storage of food items.
- Oversee food preparation and ensure meals are made according to standards and recipes.
- Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling staff, maintaining kitchen records, and monitoring food costs.
- Step into the Kitchen Manager role as needed, managing kitchen operations during their absence.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- ServSafe Certification preferred but not required
- 1-3 years of experience in food service operations
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively provide direction to coworkers, and perform administrative tasks.
- Experience with budgeting, purchasing, and menu planning preferred.
- Flexibility to assume all kitchen related duties when necessary (cook, organize, wash dishes, etc).
Job Type: Part-time with some Full-time benefits including PTO and holidays.
Pay: $18-$22 / hour

- 8 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
- Hours may vary. School holidays and breaks observed. This position does not work over the summer break.
Location: Delray Beach, FL 33444: Must reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work.
