We are seeking a dedicated and flexible carpenter to join our team on a PRN (as-needed) basis, with the opportunity to transition into a
full-time position with benefits based on performance and organizational needs. This role offers flexible hours, allowing you to work as
needed initially, with the potential for a permanent, full-time role for the right candidate.
To serve the Medical Center and its Corporate Entities, in a wide variety of skilled duties typically related to general carpentry trades and performs them in a timely, safe, and effective manner. This position will be accountable at all Unity Point Health facilities including floor, ceiling, and wall finishes. Will be on call for off-shifts (6 pm to 7 am on weekdays) and weekends. Must meet requirements for on call which includes a 30-minute response time from activation/call to hospital.
Responsibilities
PERFORMS ROUTINE AND SPECIAL WORK ASSIGNMENTS TO PROVIDE RELIABLE, EFFECTIVE SKILLS WITHIN THE MEDICAL CENTER AND ITS ANCILLARY BUILDINGS. Knowledgeable and skilled in the following:
- Installs and repairs suspended ceilings.
- Installs and repairs doors and hardware (closures, panic, fire, and positive latching hardware).
- Key and re-pin door locks and combo codes.
- Installs cabinets and countertops.
- Completes layout and framing for new partitions, including wall finishes.
- Installs, including proper anchoring, for wall hung items such as grab bars, toilet paper holders, paper towel holders, and pictures.
- Performs all the above in a timely manner.
SELECT AND INSTALL DOORS, HARDWARE, CEILINGS, WALL, AND FLOOR FINISHES THAT WILL MEET SPECIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS PER I.D.P.H., B.O.C.A., DNV, A.D.A. AND OTHER STATE AND LOCAL AUTHORITY CONDUCIVE TO HEALTHCARE FACILITIES.
- Maintains knowledgeable of where 20-minutes, 1-hour, and 2-hour wall & doors are required and what are the physical requirements for such.
- Maintains knowledgeable and skilled at installation of ceiling, wall, and floor finish applications.
- Demonstrates the ability to apply wall, floor and ceilings finishes in a workman like fashion.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to apply fire stopping and fire stopping systems.
- Maintains knowledgeable of hardware types, grab bars, and installation heights for ADA requirements.
DEMONSTRATE THE ABILITY TO PERFORM A WIDE RANGE OF SKILLS FROM BASIC ROUGH-IN TYPE WORK TO MORE COMPLEX, SKILLED TASKS ASSOCIATED WITH THE FABRICATION AND INSTALLATION OF VARIOUS TYPES OF SPECIALIZED COUNTER TOPS, CABINETS, AND EQUIPMENT
- Lays out and installs new walls, doors, and door hardware, as well as ceiling systems.
- Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and facility structures.
- Fabricates framework for countertops and cabinets.
- Installs plastic laminate on countertops and cabinets.
- Performs trim carpentry work including installation of base trim, vinyl and wood casings and moldings, and various other installations or renovations.
- Performs all the above in a timely manner and high quality.
EXHIBITS PROFESSIONALISM, PROMOTES TEAMWORK, AND A COOPERATIVE EFFORT WHILE DEALING WITH ALL PATIENTS, VISITIORS, DOCTORS, AND STAFF. CONDUCTS ALL ACTIVITIES WITHIN THE GUIDELINES, BUT NOT LIMITIED TO, THE FOLLOWING REGULATORY AGENCIES SUCH AS B.O.C.A., I.D.P.H., DNV., A.D.A., AND OTHER STATE AND LOCAL AUTHORITY CONDUCIVE TO HEATLHCARE FACILITIES.
- Assists in achieving department goals and objectives.
- Assists peers in assignment completion.
- Gives and receives peer evaluation constructively.
- Provides continuous input on the status of the facility in relation to possible code/safety issues.
- Uses protective equipment appropriately.
- Provides for safety measures (safety guards on power tools, appropriate signage in work area, interim life safety measures.)
Qualifications
Education:
| High School graduate or equivalent
|
Experience:
| · 3-5 years of experience in/with training applied to working within the specifications of applicable building codes such as IBC, B.O.C.A, E.P.A., N.F.P.A., O.S.H.A., and DNV requirements. Innate work skills, knowledge and hands-on type formal training in skilled carpentry trades or building maintenance carpentry work.
