Overview
Central Sterile Tech Lead
Full-time, 40 hours per week
Shifts: 7:00am-3:30pm with one late shift a week and one call Saturday every 4th Saturday
The Central Sterile Technician Team Lead works under the directon of the Surgical Services Leader to ensure responsible care and coordination of the overall cleaning, decontamination, assembly, sterilization and dispensing of surgical instruments, equipment and supplies required for daily procedures in surgery,
endoscopy and related departments.
Responsibilities
Acts as Central Sterile representative at hospital/ organizational meetings as directed by the supervisor.
· Openly communicates with all team members to prioritize services to meet organizational and departmental needs.
· Works collaboratively with the supervisors to promote an environment which fosters quality patient care and a rewarding climate for staff.
· Provides assistance, guidance and direction to staff to successfully achieve compliance with unit and organizational policies and standards.
· Empowers,encourages and solicits all team members to participate and be involved in all daily work practices.
· Assists with staffing, scheduling, productivity, compliance and performance initiatives.
· Responsible for the coordination of all aspects of the sterilization process:
o Decontamination
o Preparation, packaging, sterilization
o Documentation of sterile efficacy
o Sterile storage including remediation of equipment failures and hazards.
· Provide integrity and sterility of products and services for the customers.
· Collaborates closely with the OR staff to provide timely sterile products.
· Maintain consistency and continuous workflow between the OR and Central Sterile Processing while practicing excellent customer service.
· Decontamination, reprocessing and maintenance of flexible endoscopes and bronchoscopes.
· Communicates with other members of the healthcare team in order to ensure continuity of care and clear coordination of services.
· Participates in unit operations demonstrating professional behaviors to include supporting goals of central sterile unit and maintaining awareness of resource utilization.
· Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by following FOCUS values and AIDET.
· Must successfully complete and pass unit required certification and educational classes.
Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or G.E.D.
Experience:
None required. Experience preferred.
License(s)/Certification(s):
Obtain Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) Certification within two (1) year of hire date. Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Demonstrate knowledge and skills required to specialized area of assignment. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required to effectively collaborate with various clinical staff and other disciplines. Ability to learn concepts of and demonstrate, sterilization, disinfection, packaging of surgical instruments, making packs and processing surgical trays.
Other:
Electronic and mechanical patient care equipment. Steam, gas and Sterrad sterilizers, cart washer, washer sterilizer, heat sealer. PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Gloves, goggles, face shield, plastic apron, and heavy gloves for burn protection.
