UnityPoint Health - Fort Dodge
Floor Technician (Janitor/Custodian)
Shift: 4:30pm-1:00am with every other weekend and no holidays

- Collects equipment and/or supplies for daily use.
- Performs complete stripping and refinishing hard surface floors using detailed methods.
- Performs scrubbing and extracting carpets up to and including total restoration processes.
- Performs stripping and applying standard floor finishes and/or special urethane finishes.
- Performs touch-up and application of same finish.
- In addition, may perform the routine and/or special cleaning needs of areas as assigned toinclude: Auto scrubbing, bovaccing, dry and wet mopping, wiping off counters and other surfaces, vacuuming, pulling trash, high dusting, edging, cleaning patient rooms, sinks, toilets, showers, tubs, spot cleaning carpets, buffing or burnishing floors, cleaning stairwells, operate cardboard packer.
- Weighs, records and packs biohazard waste.
- Maintains high standards of cleanliness.
- Maintains safe entrances to hospital.
- Notifies Supervisor or HELP Line of any repairs or maintenance needed.
- Delivers supplies if assigned.
- Delivers clean linen after hours and holidays, if assigned.
- Delivers overhead bar and trapeze, traction equipment, medical gas cylinders and other equipment as requested.
- Assists with meeting room set-ups.
- Responds to emergencies within the department and medical center.
- Responds as assigned to internal and external disasters/drills.
- Participates daily in department stretching program.
- Suggests to the Supervisor or Manager, safer or efficient methods of performing assigned work.
- Completes daily cleanup of equipment, buckets, handles, carts and the like.
- Maintains cleanliness and orderliness in Environmental Services’ supply closets, cleaning stations, floor sinks and storage areas.
- Preventive and simple maintenance of equipment as assigned.
- Responds to Disruptive Individual Codes.
Education:
Must be at least 18 years of age. High School diploma or equivalent desirable (GED), but not required
Experience:
Previous Environmental Services (housekeeping) in a health care facility desirable but not required.
License(s)/Certification(s):
Ability to obtain MOAB certification is required. Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ability to follow instructions. Ability to read work orders and write. Ability to perform basic math and perform operations with units such as cup, pint, and quart, inch, foot, and yard; ounce and pound.
Other:
Equipment operated includes: concentrated or ready to use chemicals, rotos, floor burnishers/buffers, vacuums, wet and dry mops, large buckets and wringers, carpet extractors, automatic floor scrubbers, bovacs, high dusters, johnny mops, cardboard packer, pagers, and carts. PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Protective clothing required includes gloves, sometimes goggles, face shield, protective gown, knee pads, and rubber or paper shoe coverings.
