Overview
As a member of the Facilities team, the Painter will complete all painting and assist with wall repairs throughout the organization. Prepares surfaces, applies finishes or coverings, cleans work area upon completion and documents work performed. Understands and manages inventory of paint and supplies as needed for projects.
Responsibilities
General Painting and Wall Finishing
- Paint and Wallpaper: Selects premixed paint or mixes paint to match existing or specified colors, adhering to UnityPoint Health brand standards. Demonstrates expertise in identifying, preparing, and applying finishes or coverings to various surfaces using appropriate tools. Completes spot repairs as needed, cleans the work area upon completion, and documents work performed, including colors used.
- Wall Repair and Preparation: Prepares new drywall for finishing, including mudding, taping, sanding, and priming. Efficiently fills holes, joints, and cracks with appropriate filler materials. Prepares surfaces such as plaster and drywall for refinishing and patches walls as needed. Demonstrates proper techniques for installing and removing vinyl wall coverings, including double-cutting and trimming around casings and corners.
- Surface Preparation and Application: Maintains knowledge of wood species and their unique reactions to paints and stains. Prepares surfaces and applies finishes to achieve high-quality appearance and durability. Relevant surfaces include drywall, plaster, hollow-metal doors and frames, aluminum ceiling grids, wood doors and trim, metal access doors, glazed tiles, and ceramic tiles.
- Wall Protection Devices: Installs wall protection devices such as chair rails and FRP panels.
- Equipment Utilization: Safely uses required equipment, including scaffolding, ladders, sprayers, and air purifiers.
- Inventory Management: Manages inventory of paint and supplies for touchups and projects. Orders supplies as needed to maintain stock levels.
- Work Assignments: Self-assigns and completes routine work requests. May also be assigned tasks by the Manager as needed.
Administrative Tasks
- Utilizes WebTMA system to enter records of work completed and enter work details.
- Utilizes computers for reference in performing duties
- Use of email system for communication to receive employee communications and monitor calendar events.
- Utilizes other systems such as the RL Incident Reporting system to report incidents observed or affecting position.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid drivers license.
- Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
- 2 Years’ experience as a residential, commercial, or institutional painter.
- Microsoft Outlook– basic computer skills.
- Customer/patient focused.
- Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
