RN - Ambulatory Surgery
Grundy County Memorial Hospital
As-Needed
The Ambulatory Surgery Nurse’s is responsible for the direct and indirect provision of professional nursing care of the patients in the perioperative setting. The nurse is accountable for ongoing evaluation and documentation of all components of care delivered to customers within the perioperative and outpatient environment utilizing the nursing process.
Responsibilities
Support the organization’s mission and values while fostering a warm, calm, and patient-centered environment.
Follow directions from the charge nurse and complete delegated tasks accurately and efficiently.
Conduct preanesthesia duties including patient teaching, history and assessment, IV access, phlebotomy, ECG testing, and sedation/analgesia monitoring.
Provide Phase I postanesthesia care with a focus on airway management, pain control, PONV management, fluid resuscitation, and comprehensive physiological assessments.
Deliver Phase II postanesthesia care, including discharge teaching and ongoing monitoring of postoperative recovery and complications.
Monitor and interpret ECGs, assess for Malignant Hyperthermia, and manage thermoregulation throughout all perianesthesia phases.
Practice age-specific care, maintain infection control standards, and follow universal precautions at all times.
Accurately chart patient information and report any changes in condition to appropriate personnel.
Ensure the ASU area remains clean, safe, and organized, completing daily and weekly operational tasks as assigned.
Uphold strict confidentiality in line with organizational policies.
Qualifications
- Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Must possess current acute hospital experience (within past 5 years).
- Must possess a current Iowa license as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.
- Must be certified or willing to certify in BLS, PALS, and ACLS.
- Must complete the Dependent Adult/Child Abuse Training.
- Dysrhythmia management course is preferred.
- Previous PACU experience preferred.
- Must possess the ability to function in a team environment.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, family members, visitors, and physicians.
- Must be able to relay information to appropriate personnel concerning a patient’s condition.
- Must have patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as willingness to handle difficult situations.
