RN Lead/Clinical Educator Job Summary
The RN Lead/Clinical Educator coordinates day-to-day operations of the daily activities of the unit utilizing quality and cost-effective patient care principles.
Responsibilities:
- Prioritizes, assigns and distributes work, to include scheduling surgical cases based on available resources, continuity of care and skill level of the team member;
- Coordinates scheduling and maintains appropriate staffing levels and effectively communicates with others to ensure staffing requirements are met;
- Collaborates with Leadership, effectively resolving complex unit situations, involving team members, patients, providers, vendors, students, and visitors.
- Provides feedback and input to Leadership for ongoing performance management.
- Collaborates with Leadership on development of the performance improvement action plans, including implementation and monitoring.
- Completes appropriate reports as delegated by Leadership.
- Collaborates with department leadership to integrate supply chain/Electronic Medical Record programs to develop and disseminate appropriate reports.
- Serves as the project lead on Revenue Cycle and Supply Chain initiatives.
- Provides support and recommendations for patient billing activities and processes.
- Provides immediate feedback for staff and responds to difficult inquiries and problems.
- Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.
- Develops an individual plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and health care team.
Clinical Excellence
Plan, organize and facilitate ongoing education and competency for team members – will assess educational needs of each unit team, assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of in-services, educational offerings and competencies by using formal and informal teaching methods.
Employee Development
Collaborates with Professional Development colleagues to provide a Nurse Residency program for newly graduated nurses.
Assists unit leadership in facilitating clinical orientation for new team members – may provide limited at-the-elbow support as requested or collaborate with unit-based preceptors and unit leadership to establish action plans for orientees who are struggling.
Mentors less experienced team members, guides professional behaviors while adhering to the policies and procedures of the organization, demonstrates the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately
Quality Improvement
Collaborates with nursing leadership to support implementation of evidenced based practice into the department setting.
Qualifications
- Associates Degree in Nursing;
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred;
- Five or more years of nursing experience in a MHU setting;
- Previous supervisory experience preferred;
- Current license in the state of Iowa or meets criteria established by Iowa Board of Nursing.
