Responsibilities
Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
- Examines and assesses acutely ill employees and determines urgency of care.
- Refers cases to company provider, or personal provider when appropriate.
- Administers necessary testing to employees (e.g. audiometry, spirometry, vision screening, etc.).
- Implements company health and safety programs on topics such as blood pressure, burns, wellness, CPR, and may include weekly indemnity and international travel.
- Maintains accurate and confidential employee medical records on computer and hard copy as needed. Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.
- Accurately and promptly implements provider’s orders.
- Observes and supports all UnityPoint Health and company-specific policies and protocols.
- Assists in case management initiation and follow-up.
- Functions independently in single-nurse-staffed clinic.
- Delivers high quality care while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required in assigned unit/dept./area in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.
- Utilizes holistic approach (considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients and families served in the assigned service area.
- Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgements; maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.
- Effectively deals with confidential and sensitive information, showing ongoing discretion and secure information management.
- Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
- Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
- Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
- Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
- Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
- Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Experience:
3 years of nursing experience
- One (1) year of outpatient clinical experience or demonstrated clinical efficiency.
- Prior Occupational Health nursing experience
- Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.
- Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain within three (3) months from date of hire.
- Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
- Obtain and maintain National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) approved spirometry testing certification.
- Obtain and maintain Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) certification.
