GENERAL SUMMARY
A Graduate Assistantship (GA) at the University of Sioux Falls (USF) is an academic appointment that requires the individual to be enrolled in either an MBA (a two-year program only) or an M.Ed. at USF. A GA is a 12-month (year-round) appointment, and typically a two-year commitment if the student remains in good standing and the Resident Director's (RD) performance is successful. Compensation includes: 100% graduate tuition, monthly stipend, and housing.
The primary focus of Student Life and Housing is to cultivate the well-being and success of students at USF. The RD is a live-in professional responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and the overall administration of one or more residence halls and its residents. The RD supervises a team of undergraduate students, as well as residential students by fostering safe, educational, nurturing, and inclusive Christian communities. The goal is to provide students with well-rounded support and enhance their academic experiences. In addition to responsibilities in the female residence hall, the RD will perform additional duties aligned within the strengths and interests of Student Life and Housing and the needs of the Institution.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform all necessary functions within the appropriate deadlines to ensure effective and efficient operation and management of the resident hall(s).
- Provide on-call support to one’s respective halls on a daily basis and assume "on-call" responsibility for all Residence Halls on a rotating schedule with other Resident Directors; including weekends, holidays and summers.
- Support and plan various events related to the broader function of Student Life and Housing, including, but not limited to move-in; New Student Orientation; and summer camps, conferences, and housing.
- Recruit, select, train, and meet individually with Resident Assistants; monitor work performance to ensure compliance with established Student Life and Housing policies and procedures; evaluate work performance.
- Lead programming held within the residence halls and assist with programming and events throughout campus. Coordinate with Student Life and Housing leadership as requested to provide and assistant with campus activities and programs.
- Support the function of Student Life and Housing by working assigned hours within the Student Life and Housing office.
- Serve as a primary personal resource for staff and students in dealing with specific residence hall concerns, including roommate conflicts and other developmental issues.
- Encourage students to demonstrate responsible and ethical behavior in their communities, assisting with conduct adjudication when requested by supervisor.
- Develop a familiarity with campus and community resources to ensure timely and efficient referrals when appropriate.
- Work with the Campus Safety and Security on matters pertaining to residents’ safety.
- Coordinate the completion of tasks which are related to the operational aspects of the residence hall; this includes check-in and check-out procedures, facilities requests, fire/health/safety inspections, and other aspects as needed.
- Serve on various department and university committees, as assigned.
- Attend all RD meetings and other events related to training, administrative tasks, and university initiatives.
- Support the functions of the Student Life and Housing department by leading, coordinating, administering, and supporting programs and services.
- Reflect and promote the Christian mission, vision and identity of the University.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Comply with all USF student, GA, RD. and university policies and regulations, and also with outside agencies' policies and regulations, including but not limited to Title IX, NCAA, NSIC, Department of Education, Clery Act, FERPA, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Labor, and the Department of Justice.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- An earned bachelor’s degree with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- Admittance into a USF graduate program of study prior to offer of position
- Background in Student Life and Housing preferred
- Possess a mature and growing Christian faith; ability to express an understanding of and commitment to the goals of a residential Christian liberal arts university generally and the mission of the University of Sioux Falls specifically
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to relate well with students, staff and faculty; a demonstrated ability to speak publicly in an effective manner; and a commitment to nurturing students’ sense of vocation, whole-person development, and well-being
- Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds; possess strong problem-solving, and time management skills, as well as an ability to work independently and with a team
- Strong work ethic with demonstrated understanding of the role of a graduate assistant resident director and the dedication and workload required
- Demonstrate a willingness to work a flexible schedule, including on-call shifts, evenings, and weekends
- Ability to live on campus in an RD apartment; lift and carry up to 25 pounds; successfully pass a required background check; possess a valid driver’s license; and regularly stand, sit and walk during the course of the job
