Job Summary: This position is responsible for developing and providing leadership and supervision to the financial operations team. Primary responsibilities include the ongoing management of operational financial processes, external stakeholder deliverables, collaboration with the controller team, and reporting and analysis. 

Principle Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the Financial Operations Team:

Develop and scale a high-performing financial operations team; this includes recruiting, training, and managing the team as it expands to meet the growing needs of the company.

  • Optimize Operational Financial Processes:

Develop, implement, and manage operational financial processes that support the smooth execution of externally facing functions, including external transaction management, settlements, reporting, and customer inquiries. Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements in financial operations, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and scalability as the company grows.

  • Collaborate with the Controller Team:

Work closely with the Controller team, ensuring a clear distinction between the financial operations and controller functions; the financial operations team will focus on the execution of operational processes impacting external stakeholders.

  • Manage External Stakeholder Deliverables:

Oversee all operational deliverables that impact purchasers and merchants. Ensure efficient processing of transactions, partner interactions, and the maintenance of positive relationships with external stakeholders.

  • Reporting & Analysis:

Provide regular updates and reports to senior management, highlighting key operational metrics, challenges, and opportunities for improvement in financial operations.



Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  

  • Play active role in department and/or organization development and staff development.  
  • Invest time, interest, and effort in team development activities; hold regular supervision meetings with team members; provide feedback and coaching; and ensure team member individual development goals are in place and reviewed periodically throughout the fiscal year. Lead by example and appropriately direct, coach, support, and delegate to team members.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to collaborate and effectively influence stakeholders, including the executive team, board members, equity holders, investors. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to make data-driven decisions. 
  • Expert documentation and process building skills.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to make decisions that drive long-term growth, profitability, and financial sustainability.  
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to represent the company in discussions with merchants or funding participants, bank partners, regulators or state examiners. 
  • Ability to learn and work within various software; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel and NetSuite/enterprise software and Salesforce CRM preferred. 
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion and integrity. 

Work Experience:  

  • 5 years of progressive experience in financial operations or a related field, preferably within consumer finance or lending/payments environment. 
  • Experience in process optimization and automation of financial operations. 
  • Supervisory and/or leadership experience required. 

Training and Education:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field; Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Deep understanding of consumer finance operations, especially in areas that directly impact customers and merchants.
  • Experience in process optimization and automation of financial operations. 
  • Complete all required training as assigned.

Working Environment and Requirements to Perform Job Responsibilities

  • Ability to work full-time (average of 40 hours per week). 
  • Ability to work in a shared office, private office, and/or cubicle in accordance with job duties and responsibilities. 
  • Ability to be on location and/or assigned confidential location(s) for client services for all work hours.  
  • Effective with shifting roles, responsibilities, and expectations in a changing work environment.  
  • Ability to see computer screen, read, and complete forms
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds with the ability to push, pull, bend, reach, and sit.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time/work at a desk. 
  • Ability to answer the phone in a busy environment – hear callers and be responsive.  
  • Ability to work in a high intensity/fast paced work environment and be able to multi-task and prioritize.
