About the Role
As Universal Avionics’ Digital Design Engineer, you will design state-of-the-art FPGAs for safety-critical avionics applications in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Your work will span the entire product lifecycle, allowing you to make a meaningful impact on our mission of delivering exceptional aerospace avionics solutions.
You’ll join a highly collaborative engineering team, contributing to the design, development, and integration of next-generation avionics systems trusted by pilots worldwide.
Job Responsibilities
- In this role, you will:
- Independently estimate and complete work assignments on time while following established firmware development processes and procedures.
- Develop and review firmware requirements, design documentation, and VHDL source code for FPGA-based systems.
- Integrate firmware with hardware and existing systems, develop and run physical bench tests in the lab.
- Investigate and resolve complex problem reports and provide technical input for product/system requirements.
- Lead small firmware projects, contribute to process improvements, and support proposal efforts with ROM estimates.
- Collaborate closely in a team-oriented environment, ensuring design excellence throughout the product lifecycle.
- Some travel may be required.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in Electrical Engineering,
- Five or more years of experience with FPGA design and development.
- Must be local to Duluth, GA or willing to relocate.
- Visa sponsorship is available for highly qualified candidates.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in VHDL and/or Verilog, with the ability to design FPGAs using either language
- Experience with FPGA design tools and flows, including Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus, and timing analysis tools
- Strong understanding of digital logic design principles, including state machines, combinatorial logic, timing constraints, and simple interfaces (e.g., SPI, I2C)
- Familiarity with FPGA verification concepts and debugging techniques
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a methodical and logical approach to troubleshooting
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a cross-functional engineering team
