As an intern with Universal Creative's ATI/R&D, you will immerse yourself in the real-world application of cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions within the themed entertainment industry. R&D roles provide interns with the chance to work with a wide range of technology, tools and topics, including, but not limited to: Electronics, microcontrollers, cameras and optics, a variety of sensors, motors and servos, animatronics, pre-release tech and equipment, 3D printers, unique display technologies, wireless power and communications tech, machine learning hardware, robotics, unique software, game engines, drones, projection, tracking and a slew of other such technology. Hands-on building, prototyping, coding, artwork and experimentation is highly stressed within our group. Learning how to not only create successful prototypes, but also to learn from failed experiments is expected and celebrated here. Additionally, you'll gain invaluable experience in project and vendor management—a critical skill for leaders at Universal and one that is difficult to master in a classroom setting.

Major Responsibilities
- Conducts thorough analytic reviews to assess project feasibility, identify potential risks, and optimize performance metrics.
- Supports prototype testing by collecting and analyzing data, providing critical feedback to refine designs and ensure quality.
- Participates in project creative development and brainstorm/ideation sessions.
- Contributes to the development and iteration of proof-of-concept ideas and cutting-edge technologies, transforming them into actionable solutions and innovative concepts for ATI/R&D projects.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams to implement creative ideas, ensuring alignment with project goals and technical specifications.
- Assists with vendor demonstrations.
- Develops technology platforms.
- Embraces a fast-paced, fail-fast approach, promoting rapid prototyping and iterative development to accelerate learning and drive project success
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training, and Team Member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- In pursuit of an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at an Accredited Institution with current class standing of Sophomore or above.
- Minimum cumulative 2.8 GPA is required.
- A transcript is required upon application.
- Preferred majors include: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, or similar.
- Experience with XR technologies (VR/AR hardware or software), Game Development (Unity, Unreal Engine), Python, C , C#, Computer Networking, Web Development, and/or Micro-Controllers.
- Working knowledge with various sensors 9e.g., lidars, radars, cameras) or autonomous systems.
- Background in machine learning, mechanical or electrical engineering, audio systems, projection, motion capture, networking, analytics, artificial intelligence, mixed reality hardware/software, or prototyping.
- Experience with relevant tools and programming languages such as Python, Unity, Unreal, or SolidWorks, Fusion360, CAD.
- This internship will be an in-person experience, based in our Orlando offices.
- Interns must be currently pursuing a degree at an accredited university, and must have a graduation date later than December 2025.
- Universal Orlando does not provide housing. Interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation.
- All of our internships are paid, and you may also qualify for housing financial assistance if applicable. The Recruiter will provide specific eligibility details.
