Job Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) to join our healthcare team in Towson, MD. The ideal candidate will be responsible for sterilizing, assembling, and distributing medical instruments and supplies to ensure patient safety and operational efficiency. This position is for the night shift (11:00 PM - 7:30 AM).
Key Responsibilities:
- Decontaminate, clean, inspect, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment according to established procedures and standards.
- Operate and maintain sterilization equipment, including autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, and sterilization units.
- Ensure proper packaging, labeling, and storage of sterilized instruments.
- Perform quality control checks to ensure compliance with infection control protocols and regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes, inventory, and instrument tracking systems.
- Collaborate with surgical teams and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely availability of sterilized instruments.
- Follow safety protocols and infection control guidelines to maintain a sterile work environment.
- Troubleshoot and report any equipment malfunctions or operational issues.
- Stay up to date with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician in a healthcare setting.
- Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) preferred.
- Knowledge of infection control practices, sterilization techniques, and medical terminology.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards (AAMI, CDC, OSHA, and Joint Commission guidelines).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to lift and move medical equipment as needed.
