Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Care:
- Provide basic nursing care, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with mobility.
- Monitor patients' physical and emotional well-being and report any changes to the supervising RN or physician.
- Vital Signs Monitoring:
- Measure and record vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rates.
- Notify the healthcare team of any abnormalities or concerning trends.
- Medication Administration:
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments, including oral, topical, and injectable medications, under supervision.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions and report findings promptly.
- Wound Care and Dressing Changes:
- Clean and dress wounds, ensuring proper hygiene and infection control.
- Monitor the healing process and report any signs of infection.
- Documentation and Charting:
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including treatments, medications, and observations.
- Use electronic medical records (EMR) systems to document care.
- Support for RNs and Physicians:
- Assist RNs and doctors during procedures, examinations, and diagnostic tests.
- Gather equipment and supplies for patient care or treatments.
- Patient and Family Education:
- Educate patients and families about care plans, medication regimens, and discharge instructions.
- Provide guidance on maintaining health and preventing complications.
- Infection Control and Hygiene:
- Follow infection control protocols to maintain a clean and safe care environment.
- Ensure proper disposal of biohazard materials and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Emotional and Social Support:
- Offer emotional support to patients and families, helping them navigate health concerns and treatments.
- Build positive relationships with patients to promote comfort and trust.
- Assisting with Procedures:
- Prepare patients for diagnostic or surgical procedures.
- Support during catheter insertions, EKGs, and other routine tasks.
- Monitoring and Reporting:
- Observe patients for changes in condition or behavior and report findings to the supervising nurse or physician.
- Ensure prompt escalation of concerns, such as sudden changes in vital signs or new symptoms.
- Administrative Duties:
- Schedule patient appointments and assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Maintain and restock supplies as needed.
Qualifications:
- Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification in Nebraska (don’t leave home without it!).
- Hospital experience is a plus, but we’re happy to train enthusiastic LPN who love to learn.
- Excellent communication skills—extra points if you can throw in a great dad joke!
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required (but don’t worry, no capes required).
