What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN Emergency Department position at Universal HCR?
Unit Details:
ER
Basic EKG interpretation test assigned during orientation. Critical care RNs (ED/ICUs/PICU) will have more than just the basic interpretation test (like those included in the STEMI curriculum and Procedural Sedation curriculum assigned to them).
Adult ER has 28 (18 beds and 10 reclining chairs for moderate care); Peds ER has 5 beds and 5 reclining chairs
There are 3 triage nurses to start the day
Adult ER-BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS is required; Peds ER-BLS, ALS, PALS and ENPC preferred or CPEN preferred. 2 years experience required.
ICU is 1:2; peds 1:4; adults 1:4; procedural sedation 1:1
Use ER techs or CNAs, have LVNs that run fast track area
Every other weekend
2 out of every 3 holidays
Navy blue for RN, cranberry for LVN
Phillips - they have a monitor tech
MDs and midlevel's--quick look and fast track ran by midlevel's; from 11a-11p the pads ER is staffed by a designated pediatric doctor
3 shifts on unit plus meet with ER educator to make sure all education is completed.
All diagnosis from minor walk ins to critically ill patients, respiratory failure, asthma, Abd pain, fractures, substance abuse, stroke alert facility, STEMI receiving center; some psych holds (maybe 1 per day)
"Some nurses will work just peds ER, some just adult ER and some do both. For peds ER, need to have significant peds ER experience, not just general experience. 30,000 kids per year seen in ER. approx 325 visits per day between both ERs;
traveler friendly, very team oriented, no gossip, must treat all team members well INCLUDING EMS;
In the peds ER, they are a receiving center for pediatrics; in adult ER, they are a STEMI, CVA and burn receiving center (there is a burn nurse that will come into the ER to assess),
All Candidates must have some experience with Peds and Adults (50% of their patient population is Peds roughly)"
