The UHS Corporate Clinical Services Department is hiring a Director - Patient Safety to provide strategic leadership to the Clinical Services and Risk Management teams, driving the evaluation, implementation, and enhancement of high reliability culture and patient care processes. Purposefully develops, implements, and sustains corporate-directed patient safety and high reliability systems, ensuring they meet and surpass federal and state safety standards across the UHS Behavioral Health (BH) Division.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Provide leadership and strategic direction for the implementation of High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles and practices. Collaborate closely with C-Suite executives and physician leaders to drive the planning, assessment, development, education, monitoring, and sustainment of the UHS Patient Safety Program
- Establish and evaluate key performance indicators for patient safety and compliance, analyzing trends in causal factors to identify areas for system improvements. Develop and lead the implementation of high reliability performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety outcomes
- Lead the development and creation of evidence-based high reliability systems aimed at improving patient safety and ensuring compliance. Ensure the integration of best practices into organizational processes to drive continuous improvement and high reliability
- Coordinate and conduct collaborative patient safety and compliance assessments, educational sessions, and implementation strategies with relevant departments. Facilitate “continuous readiness” strategies to maintain safety and regulatory compliance across all facilities
- Lead and manage the Corporate BH Patient Safety Council and overall PsychSafe management, collaborating with facility and corporate leaders to develop programming and initiatives. Develop the quarterly agenda for council meetings and ensures accurate documentation and completion of minutes
- Coordinate and conduct patient safety and compliance activities with Quality, Risk, Facilities, and other departments, ensuring alignment and readiness related to safety and regulatory standards
- Assess the educational needs of hospital leaders and clinical staff, developing targeted training programs to promote and maintain patient safety initiatives. Implement compliance improvement processes based on current evidence-based high reliability practices and principles
Qualifications:
Master's degree with 8 - 10 years' experience in patient safety, risk management, quality management, or similar experience in behavioral health care hospitals or multi-provider healthcare systems. 10 years of experience preferred.
- Knowledge of and competency in patient safety and high reliability systems.
- Knowledgeable in regulatory standards and accreditation standards with subject matter expertise in applying patient safety and high reliability principles to acute care hospital operations
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data, develop metrics for data evaluation, and recommend patient safety initiatives in response to data trends
- Advanced performance improvement skill set
- Advanced ability to develop a strategic plan and tactics to support operationalizing plans
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team is required including physicians, nurses, department heads, quality and risk staff, and executive leadership
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Certified Professional of Patient Safety (CPPS), Performance Improvement Certification (CSSBB) preferred
- Up to 40% US travel
