Universal Institute is a leading provider of rehabilitation and supportive-living services to individuals with brain and spinal cord injuries and other neurological conditions. Our home and community-based platform offers Client-centered services with concentration of Activities of Daily Living and Community Reintegration. In addition to physical impairments, our population often has difficulty with attention, concentration, memory, organizational skills, perception, expressing feelings, and at times inappropriate behaviors. At UIRehab, our objective is to encourage our Clients to work toward their personal goals while developing and maintaining the self-assurance to live as independently as possible.
Primary Function: Responsible for recreational activities for the structured day program.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Development and implement daily activities that meet client needs and expectations with lesson plans
- Creating 1:1 activities for individuals with 1:1 service.
- Include a range of activities for the clients throughout the day.Activities include art, music, dance, cognitive skills, task completion, problem solving, structured conversations, psychosocial activities, information exchange, prevocational skill training, recreation, leisure and entertainment.
- Promote independence and motivation to clients.
- Integrate activities targeted in skilled therapy- Activities should improve their functional, cognitive and leisure skills.
- Assist clients to complete independent work tasks; assist with therapy sessions and monitor clients when needed.
- Review Incident Reports daily to stay updated on client issues.
- Keep daily record of attendance in each group.
- Maintain a file for each client that contains all the information necessary to facilitate the involvement of the client throughout the rehabilitation process.
- Collaborate as a team to provide quality care for each client.
- Assist in monitoring the client’s performance during work and report any changes to the Coordinator of Day Services.
- Provide a safe environment for all clients.
- Complete all required documentation.

Physical Demands:
- · Frequent interaction with brain injured/neurologically impaired individuals
- · On a daily basis, approximately 40% of time spent standing, 40% walking, and 20% sitting
- · Required to lift, carry and push objects, as well as, individuals weighing up to 150 pounds
- · Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach
- · Must be able to speak, hear and see. Depth perception is required
Required experience:
· Has a minimum of five years’ experience working with people with disabilities OR have a bachelor’s degree in a human service field
· At least 18 years old
· CPR and First Aid Certification, Vehicle Training
· Appropriate Professional license and/or certification required and/or certification requires
· Valid driver’s license
· Completion of specific procedural skills competence
Job Type: Full-time, Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm
