Job Title: Spanish Interpreter
Job Overview:
The Spanish In-Person Interpreter is responsible for facilitating onsite communication between Limited English Proficient (LEP) communities and practitioners who serve them in various settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions in a professional manner.
- Maintain a professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness for sessions.
- Adapt quickly to new and changing situations.
- Familiarize yourself with interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to the interpreting context.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and a commitment to working in a diverse environment.
- Show respect for and understanding of LEP clients, their culture, dialect, beliefs, and preferences.
- Demonstrate strong customer service and interpreting skills.
- Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
- Rend accurate concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol.
Requirements:
- Be fluent and possess strong verbal communication skills in both the source and target language (Spanish to English and vice versa).
- Have excellent listening and retention skills to maintain a high level of accuracy during interpretation.
- Complete a proficiency assessment or hold a national certification.
- Have extensive knowledge of code of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, and NCIHC).
- Be at least 18 years old.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Read and write in the requested languages.
- Possess a degree or certifications in interpreting practices.
- Hold National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI, NBCMI, or DSHS.
- Accredited Medical Interpreting Training course (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses).
