JOB SUMMARY:
Plans, coordinates, leads, participates and supports – Horticulture, Ride and Show, and Facilities Maintenance departments, as well as other divisions across UO, with all aspects and requirements for tree maintenance, removal and relocation. Perform tree risk assessment for mitigating identified risks. Shall obtain and hold a MOT (Maintenance of Traffic) card for lane closures and traffic maintenance.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
High school degree or GED preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Must be proficient in operation of heavy equipment including a loader, extended boom lull, JCB, backhoe, aerial reach and bucket truck. Demonstrating proper rigging skills for loading, unloading and transport of large specimen trees. Must also be proficient in rigging and climbing; and have extensive knowledge of tree identification, tree physiology, proper tree pruning technique, leading others, tree risk assessments, and identification of proper tree nutrition and/or deficiencies. This job requires extensive physical job duties and the ability to climb and trim trees at long intervals. In addition to the use of specific knot tying, strategic climbing, and the use of power tools while in the trees and on the ground. Must have the ability to operate and work out of a bucket truck and high reach at heights up to but not limiting to 50 feet

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans and delegates work tasks for the Arborist team; delegates work assignments among crewmembers; gives directions needed for proper completion of tasks; provides feedback about work performed.
- Responsible for team’s productivity and performance while assuring compliance with all UO safety standards for the Arborist team; leads task startup and stoppage, schedules breaks, assures appropriate care, condition, use and storage of tools, equipment and other UO property; maintains material inventories, assures compliance with wardrobe/grooming standards, Maximo Auditing, driving policy, radio usage, and other UO policies.
- Oversee the annual risk assessments of UO trees and proper documentation in the PM system.
- Performs regular job duties as described in the Arborist I job description; maintains and shares job knowledge; assists in developing team members skills and talents.
- Communicates and coordinates with other departments or crafts as needed; communicates resource needs and work plans to Supervision; provides two-way communications between work team, supervisor, and other management and HR personnel.
- Ensures proper completion of documentation; captures written behaviors using the Lead Observation Report to support managerial and supervisory documentation.
- Assists with training new and current employees; assigns who will provide daily training.
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
High school degree or GED preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- 5 years: in arboriculture settings including tree climbing, leading and planning team members.
- 2 years tree risk assessments for mitigated risks;
- or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Class B CDL required
- ISA Certified Arborist required
- ISA Tree Risk Assessment Certification required
- MOT (Method of Traffic) certification from DOT required
