Overview
The Authorization Specialist plays a crucial role in the organization by ensuring that patients receive the necessary approvals for medical services and procedures. This position requires a keen understanding of insurance verification processes, medical terminology, and coding practices. The ideal candidate will work closely with case managers, support coordinators, insurance companies, and patients to facilitate timely authorizations while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
Duties
- Track Care Plans and Authorizations for MLTSS program
- Track Care Plans and Authorizations for DDD program
- Contacting Case Managers and Service Coordinators to request new authorizations, changes in authorizations and to continue authorizations.
- Following up with Case Managers and Service Coordinators to ensure authorizations are finalized.
- Tracking authorizations due and performing quarterly audits of authorization charting.
- Entering new and updated authorizations into the UI Billing Application.
- Updating the Rehab team on status of authorizations.
- Collaborating with the Billing, Reimbursement and Compliance departments to resolve issues.
- Collaborating with the Executive Director of Admissions and the Care Coordinator to ensure authorizations are in place for new admissions.
Provide owner with details of authorizations for new admissions
Skills
- Proficiency in insurance verification processes within a residential and rehab setting.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point)
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail to manage multiple authorization requests efficiently.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with healthcare professionals and patients.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
