SUPERVISOR REMELT
Position Overview:
The Remelt Supervisor shall be highly motivated with strong leadership, analytical, and organizational skills and capable of making intelligent decisive decisions. A remelt supervisor will prioritize workload utilizing available resources to execute work in a timely manner. The remelt supervisor will also be the front-line leader of production scheduling including issuing, reviewing, and maintaining production documents as well as maintaining inventory critical inventory supplies. The remelt supervisor will be responsible for safety, continuous improvement, and 5S projects, employee work schedule and time reporting, and managing employees in the union environment.
Primarily day shift, off-shift as needed; expectation of 50-60 hours a week.
Specific Responsibilities:
Specific primary responsibilities are defined by the following, but not limited to:
- Promotes a safe culture within the plant by engaging in safety observation and other required safety programs.
- Ensure safety procedures are being followed; provide training, accountability, and discipline.
- Foster a culture of a sense of urgency while also ensuring attention to detail in all processes in the assigned areas.
- Entry of purchase requisitions and maintaining the inventory of critical operational supplies.
- Plan, execute, and monitor work including a 7-day forecast horizon, and 72-hour detail analysis ensuring adherence to “Late to Plan” requirements.
- Lead Continuous Improvement (CI) projects to improve productivity, increase yield, and/or eliminate non-value-added work.
- Support cross-functional improvement efforts by collaborating with the Technical, Engineering, and Maintenance Departments.
- Document poor work performance and address training or discipline issues.
- Issue weekly work schedules for hourly employees and report accurate time to payroll on a regular basis
- Issue, renew, and maintain interdepartmental production documents.
- Facilitate daily meetings for hourly employees and assign work tasks.
- Facilitate daily meetings with senior staff and report daily department performance of safety, quality, 5S, productivity, maintenance, and other issues arising with the department.
- Maintain 5S compliance and improvement throughout the department.
- Utilize Level II supervisory system or furnace monitoring to review and confirm compliance to specific tasks and inspection requirements.
- Monitor performance and instrumentation of ESR and VAR furnaces and provide hourly employees with solutions to real problems that may arise.
- Monitor heat treat tempering for production capacity and coordinate product transfer to other plant units.
- Analyze and sort metal with a portable/hand-held spectrometer.
Required Knowledge/Skills Abilities
- Must have good computer skills
- Must have a logical understanding of electrical and mechanical principles.
- Must have experience in a steel mill and/or industrial mill environment.
- Knowledge of Remelting and specialty steels preferred.
- Must be able to interact with the salary and hourly workforce on safety, scheduling, and training issues.
- Must be highly organized and methodical when approaching given tasks.
- Experience in personnel development and leadership.

Education and Experience
- High School Diploma
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 3 years of front-line supervisory experience managing a union workforce.
Safety
- Ensure personal compliance with safety policies and rules, including PPE requirements
- Ensure personal compliance with applicable regulatory (safety, environmental, health) standards.
- Reporting and participation in the investigations of safety incidents and/or accidents.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to safely move around in a heavy industrial plant environment, including but not limited to:
- Walking or riding from building to building
- Ascending or descending steps within the plant
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Lifting to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis
- Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours as required and maintain job performance standards.
