- Assists in planning, developing, and implementing a program of guidance services to promote the growth and development of each individual student
- Counsels students individually, regarding educational and career choices, personal and social concerns, and the formulation of sound long-range plans
- Consults with parents, staff, and community
- Conducts early screening to assist in the identification of students with special needs and talents, students who are over-aged and under-credited, and students with physical and emotional challenges that have impacted their learning; and makes referrals to appropriate services, and support programs or agencies
- Provides counseling to potential dropouts to identify alternative academic and social support program options
- Supports on-going orientation activities for new students and their parents, beginning in September and continuing throughout the school year
- Prepares and maintains appropriate records and reports, as required
- Updates and confirms student graduation eligibility following a review of student transcripts
- Administers and interprets interest inventories for students as they relate to educational and career planning
- Consults with parents and administrators to bring about better adjustment of students
- Support crisis intervention efforts and provide timely, compassionate responses to emerging issues that impact students, families, or the school community.
- Consults and cooperates with other supportive services personnel to inform student and school-wide goal development and intervention planning
- Participates in conferences conducted by the Student Support Team and Child Study Team
- Manage crises, including intervention, mediation, consultation, and support
- Reviews student transcripts to assess progress toward graduation and develop a plan for course completion
- Participates in professional learning committees, professional development workshops, in-service trainings, and administrative meetings to keep abreast of new trends and techniques in the field of guidance and youth development
- Assist with developing graduation and postsecondary placement goals in partnership
- Counsel students on admissions to two- and four-year public and private universities as well as career and technical/workforce programs
- Create and maintain tracking of post secondary planning
- Provide advisement in all aspects of financial aid process including scholarships and opportunity programs
- Collect, maintain, and utilize data to inform program choices and to support team members in achieving ambitious college access goals
- Collaborate with all members of the counseling team to plan and execute special events, workshops, and presentations on postsecondary exploration (i.e. college night, FAFSA workshops, college tours, info sessions)
- Analyze data related to student achievement, attendance, behavior, and other factors to identify trends and inform decision-making
- Help students plan their academic schedules, select appropriate courses, and set educational goals based on their interests, abilities, graduation pathway, & postsecondary interests
- Perform other duties and tasks assigned by Supervisor
