POSITION: Third Grade Teacher
PURPOSE OF JOB: To provide highly effective instruction to students in all areas by working collaboratively with all school personnel, students, parents and community members and being cognizant of all state and district requirements for serving the needs of students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):
- Embrace and advance the mission of University Academy, which is to prepare students to succeed in college and become leaders in society.
- Embody core values of results, integrity, self-improvement, and excellence.
- Meet and instruct assigned classes at the times designated.
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
- Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of clear learning goals for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate these goals to students.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Strive to implement the school’s philosophy of education via effective instruction and communication to students and families.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
- Confer with and seek assistance of school administrators regarding possible interventions for struggling students.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to provide a safe environment for students.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, school policy, and administrative regulation.
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct in a fair and just manner.
- Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aides and volunteers in cooperation with building principal.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Work with designated team to plan and determine appropriate steps to meet student needs.
- Supervise students throughout the school day and as directed by the principal before or after school hours.
- Demonstrate effective human relations and communication skills.
- Comply with good safety practices.
- Comply with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
- Participate in evening and weekend school functions as determine by building principal.
- Other duties/responsibilities deemed necessary may be assigned.

Requirements:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Candidate must have a desire to work in an urban school environment with the purpose of closing the achievement gap.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Hold or be eligible for Missouri Teaching Certificate
