Job Description:

The Trauma and Resilience Specialist will provide brief trauma-focused counseling, consultation, and crisis intervention services to UAlbany students who have experienced trauma. They will also assist students with accessing additional resources, supports, and accommodations as needed. They will serve as a consultant to the campus community regarding trauma and resilience, including offering individualized consultations as well as serving on relevant campus committees. The specialist will develop and deliver programs and trainings for faculty, staff, and students to disseminate information regarding trauma-informed practices, to promote healthy behaviors and relationships, to enhance resilience, and to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide brief, trauma-focused counseling and consultation to UAlbany students, including crisis intervention as needed.
  • Provide care coordination and connect clients to additional resources, supports and accommodations.
  • Provide consultation to faculty, staff, families, and students regarding the mental health and well-being impacts of trauma.
  • Develop and deliver trainings and other programs based on observed and measured campus needs related to students who have experienced trauma, as well as the prevention of violence through promotion of mental health, well-being, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Contribute to department, division, and University operations that are consistent with strategic goals and strategies, through service on committees and workgroups.
  • Provide clinical supervision to trainees as assigned, ensuring their professional practices and clinical service delivery are consistent with CAPS, University, and professional goals, strategies, and guidelines. Lead trainees for maximum performance, dedication, and experiential learning. Complete performance management feedback and goals timely and per requirements.
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned

Functional and Supervisory Relationships:

  • Reports to the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services
  • Supervises the following positions: trainees (typically one per year), including graduate students in practicum positions at CAPS and, if applicable, Doctoral Psychology Interns
  • Collaborates with relevant campus partners including Title IX Coordinator and Office of Health Promotions Survivor Advocate

Job Requirements:

  • Thorough knowledge regarding the mental health impacts of trauma in college and university students, including diagnostic considerations and evidence-based treatment approaches.
  • Demonstrated skill in providing effective trauma-focused therapy for clients from a diverse range of personal and cultural backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide crisis intervention and urgent mental health consultation directly to clients as well as concerned others.
  • Knowledge of resources and supports relevant to those who have experienced trauma
  • Demonstrated skill in the development and delivery of trainings and programs that prevent violence and trauma through the promotion of mental health, well-being, healthy relationships, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Skill in clinical supervision of emerging professionals.
  • Understanding of college and university counseling practices and service models.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Commitment to cultural humility and ongoing development of multicultural competency in the context of providing inclusive and equitable services.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or related field.
  • New York State license for independent clinical practice or license eligible.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience providing trauma-focused mental health care.
  • Experience working with college students or emerging adults.
  • Experience delivering outreach, training, and/or programming.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with clients from marginalized backgrounds and provide compassionate ethical, culturally sensitive, and nonjudgmental care.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team that values teamwork, communication, and a solution-oriented work atmosphere.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA accredited program from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • 3 years of relevant, post-degree experience.
  • Experience working in a college counseling setting.
  • Experience developing and delivering trainings and programs related to trauma and violence prevention through mental health and well-being promotion.
  • Supervisory experience.

Working Environment:

  • Office environment with collegial staff
  • Provision of services on both a scheduled appointment and urgent on-demand basis
  • Provision of therapy, consultation, and crisis intervention services can range from low risk to management of high-risk suicidality and serious mental health needs.
  • Occasional evening and weekend presentation and programming obligations.


Additional Information:

Professional Rank and Salary Grade: Senor Counselor, SL-4, $75,000
