Assistant Director, Fraternity and Sorority Life

The Assistant Director of Student Engagement for Fraternity and Sorority Life provides guidance, support, and oversight for all social fraternity and sorority chapters recognized by the university. This position contributes to the holistic development of students involved in Fraternity and Sorority Life by promoting academic success, fostering leadership, and enhancing the overall student experience through advising, programming, new member education, collaborative leadership, and academic recognition initiatives. 

 

Key Responsibilities will include:  

  1. Advising and Support: 
  • Serve as the primary advisor to the Council of Presidents, National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), UB Panhellenic Council, and the United Council of Cultural Fraternities and Sororities (UCCFS), offering guidance on governance, leadership, and operational issues 
  • Collaborate with Panhellenic Council leadership to support a smooth recruitment process through the coordination and management of Panhellenic Sorority Formal and Informal Recruitment, ensuring an equitable and organized process for all participants 
  1. Programming and Community Needs: 
  • Work with chapter leadership to promote a positive and inclusive community environment, free of hazing 
  • Create and implement programming tailored to the evolving needs of the fraternity and sorority community, with a focus on leadership development, diversity, equity, inclusion, risk management and harm reduction 
  1. New Member Education 
  • Implement all necessary eligibility workshops required by the university, ensuring they are educational, engaging, and aligned with university policies and Greek community standards 
  • Provide guidance and expertise on new member recruitment/intake practices for all chapters that prioritize hazing prevention 
  • Oversee and administer the PLAID online learning platform, ensuring that Greek community members complete required training modules 
  1. Collaborative Leadership: 
  • Serve as a liaison between the university and Greek organizations, promoting positive relations and advocating for the student experience and student needs 
  • Lead promotional outreach efforts to raise awareness of fraternity and sorority life accomplishments, fostering a positive public image, and encouraging student involvement 
  1. Academic and Recognition Initiatives: 
  • Compile and distribute systemwide academic reports for all fraternities and sororities, tracking performance metrics and promoting academic excellence within the community 
  • Develop and implement the Greek Life Recognition Program, celebrating student achievement and chapter excellence in academics, leadership, community engagement and philanthropy 
  • Provide management and advisement to the three UB Chapters of National Greek Honor Societies (Gamma Sigma Alpha, Order of Omega, and Rho Lambda), ensuring their successful operation and upholding their values 

 

Due to the nature of our work, some evening and weekend hours will be required.
