The mission of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department is to engage students in a teaching and research-intensive environment that supports growth of character, technical skills, critical thinking, and preparation for the profession. Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Non-Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate teaching goals.
Teaching – Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Teaching professors support the academic mission of a department through distinguished
teaching, curriculum innovation, mentoring, and professional development. This is a full-time,
non-tenure track faculty position. The candidate’s primary focus is excellence in teaching and

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
Preferred Education, Skills And Experience
A Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering (or a related field) is required. Priority will be given to
candidates with demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, professional experience in
civil engineering, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work
collaboratively with colleagues and students.
Necessary Licenses/Certifications
Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred (not required).
