8:00 am – 5:00 pm; Monday – Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary.
Primary Purpose of Position
This position serves as the Carolina’s RESPOND Research Study Project Coordinator – with responsibility for the daily management and oversight of the RESPOND research study in Charlotte – ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines across the RESPOND team and collaborators. Leads participant recruitment efforts. Assists in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Four-year degree or equivalent combination of training and experience is necessary to perform the work.
University Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from a four-year college or university in an area related to social science, including coursework in statistics, research methodology, computer science, and/or other coursework directly related to the work to be performed, and one year of statistical or related experience involving reports and data compilation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Job Duties
- Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with two (2) years of research experience required in a health-related field such as public health, anthropology, sociology, psychology, social work, or statistics.
- Strong initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team
- Demonstrates teamwork and professionalism in working with research participants, study team members, and community partners to effectively collaborate
- Ability to provide directions to research staff, team members, and students
- Strong organizational, project, and time management skills
- Ability/temperament to adapt to changing conditions and diverse job tasks
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, written, and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in research databases and electronic data capture systems (e.g., REDCap)
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and ability to write and submit protocols (IRB, HIPAA, good clinical practice)
- This is a time-limited grant-funded position on a National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant.
- The Project Coordinator will be a University of North Carolina at Charlotte employee, collaborating with partners across North and South Carolina.
- MPH degree or Master’s in a health-related field, such as anthropology, sociology, social work, or psychology
- Two or more years of experience in project management, research and evaluation, and/or health interventions.
- Prior research experience in HIV/STIs, LGBTQ health, health services, or implementation science
- Prior experience with intervention design, development, and evaluation
- A working understanding of HIV epidemiology and health communications.
- Quantitative data experience (collecting and analyzing survey data) and experience with statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, or STATA)
- Experience conducting qualitative research or community-based research (key informant interviews and focus groups; and analysis and reporting using NVivo or ATLAS.ti)
- Experience working in or with local or state public health departments and health organizations
- Strong applicants will also have experience with NIH-funded intervention studies in HIV/STIs, LGBTQ health, health services, or implementation science.
