General Responsibilities
Delivers quality academic and spiritual instruction to his/her class according to the philosophy and policies of UCS while providing a fully supervised, nurturing classroom environment. All teaching positions report to division specific Principals and work under the supervision of Department Chairs and Grade Level Lead Teachers.

Instructional Duties
a. Ensure adequate preparations have been made to accomplish spiritual and educational objectives established for the classes assigned, integrating Biblical truth with instruction.
b. Plan broadly through the use of semester plans and objectives, and more currently through the use of the lesson plans and curriculum guide in accordance with state standards.
c. Teach regularly scheduled classes as assigned on the master schedule within the bounds of the curriculum guides and the philosophy of UCS.
d. Be knowledgeable of the spiritual, academic, physical, social, and emotional development of each of his/her students.
e. Employ the use of instructional aids, methods and materials that will provide for effective teaching.
f. Be aware of students at all times and keep them in a safe and secure environment.
g. Maintain adequate records of attendance and grades in order to meet the requirements of our accreditation agencies, administration, and for professional integrity.
h. Plan through approved channels the use of field trips, guest lecturers, and other media for effective and interesting teaching.
i. Take advantage of those opportunities that will improve professional development by continuing to study both within and outside one’s own area of teaching.
j. Grade assignments in a timely manner (at minimum, grades should be updated weekly).
k. Consistently communicate with parents and document communication.
l. Meet all requirements of the quarter and semester grade assessment policy.
Non-Instructional Duties
a. Always be available to be used by the Holy Spirit for the spiritual uplift of students or one’s colleagues.
b. Maintain a clear understanding and enforcement of all UCS policies/procedures including emergency procedures.
c. Maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and attend on a regular basis an Evangelical Christian church, which proclaims salvation by grace through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
d. Abstain from the use of illegal drugs, narcotic substances (other than as prescribed by a licensed physician) tobacco and alcoholic beverages and remain celibate outside of marriage, in order to uphold the standards established by University Christian School.
e. Diligently endeavor to live by godly principles and strive to be a Christian role model for the students to emulate. Luke 6:40
f. Attend Parent-Teacher Fellowship meetings, dinners and special activities faithfully.
g. Be punctual to all meetings, including faculty devotions.
h. Pray daily for students, their families and fellow staff members.
i. Maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct at all times. This includes avoiding and not participating in conversations which are negative and critical of school or church leadership, policies, programs, parents, colleagues, and students.
j. Address any questions and criticisms regarding the School or its personnel directly to the School’s administration.
k. Abide by the principles of Matthew 18 in attempting to resolve any differences/conflicts involving students, parents, faculty, and administration.
l. Strive to become an authority in Employee’s field of expertise and to integrate all instruction with Biblical truth.
m. Abide by the personnel policies, which may be modified as deemed necessary by University Baptist Church. These policies include, but are not limited to, conduct both on and off the job.
n. Be an active, attending, participating and tithing member of a local church that is in agreement with the Statement of Faith of University Baptist Church.
o. Show care and good stewardship toward the use of school facilities, materials and equipment.
p. Conduct one’s self in a professional and courteous manner in all dealing with students, parents, teaching peers, support personnel, and administration, as well as develop a rapport with them.
q. Perform all duties and responsibilities assigned by the administration
r. Keep a well-maintained, clean, attractive, and orderly classroom. All bulletin boards/classroom wall items should be updated regularly and aesthetically appealing.
s. Leave the classroom in “mint” condition when leaving every day, as well as having preparations to start the next day already made (e.g., morning sheet activity ready).
t. Be “zealous” of teaching time and minimize “down” time. Always start class on time.
u. Maintain control of students in hallways, restrooms, cafeteria, chapel, and all other places. Upper School teachers should be present in the hallway during class changes and welcome students at the door each period.
v. Be available before and after school to assist parents and students with academic needs.
Physical Requirements
a. The teacher must gather his/her students together and move in a cohesive unit and be able to move the students from one area to another in a timely and orderly manner.
b. The supervision of students in the classroom, on the playground, at lunch and during drop-off/pick-up times requires that teachers be in good physical condition so that adequate supervision is possible.
c. Teachers must be able to write on boards and prepare bulletin boards between 4-7 feet in height so that students, particularly in the back of the classroom, can see the necessary information.
d. Teachers in the school must have sufficient vision and hearing to allow for active supervision and interaction with their students.
e. Teachers must be able to demonstrate lesson concepts using physical movement and proximity in the classroom, as well as white-boards, technology, and hands-on material.
f. Teachers are required to prepare evaluation reports, complete records, and on numerous occasions, communicate with parents in writing, by phone or in person during conferences.
g. A teacher must be able to quickly summon help when an emergency arises either in the classroom, gymnasium or on the playground. The clinic personnel will assist with the majority of injuries/illnesses.
h. Teachers are required to render minimal first aid to students who have been injured in the classroom, gymnasium, or on the playground. The clinic personnel will assist with the majority of injuries/illness.
i. Full-time teachers are required to be present for staff devotions as scheduled, as well as attend after school faculty meetings and other special functions in the evening. Unless otherwise requested, faculty members are to be on campus by 7:30 a.m. and remain on campus until 3:45 p.m. Bridge Academy and Upper School teachers are to provide opportunities for tutorials or help classes throughout the week.
