Position Summary:
The Transportation Courier is responsible for picking up and delivering medical specimens and packages for the Pathology Lab. This position requires use of own vehicle for travel. The Pathology Couriers is expected to drive scheduled recurring routes as well as adhoc pickups/deliveries.
Key Results Areas (KRAs):
- Must have a courteous and pleasant demeanor
- Responsible for specimen pick-ups at all outpatient clinics and transfer of tissue to Pathology lab
- Responsible for transport of slides/cassettes between Pathology lab, Histology, DermPath, Dental School, West Tennessee Forensics Center, Methodist University Hospital, and the VA
- Responsible for transport of Covid collection kits and specimens from various client locations
- Opens and sorts incoming tissue specimens, ensuring accuracy of container to requisition
- Prepares tissue specimens for gross examination
- Accurately files and retrieves histology/cytology slides and blocks
- Perform weekly disposal of tissue specimens
- Assist with frozen section procedures as needed
- Assist with interdepartmental phone calls as well as calls from clients and physicians
- Extensive daily travel required
- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must have a valid TN driver's license and “satisfactory” driving record
- Must own vehicle and proper auto insurance
- 1-2 years Laboratory Courier experience Preferred
- Minimum high school diplomar Required
Physical Demands & Environmental Conditions:
- Work environment: office, medical practice, medical lab, mobile collection sites, hospitals, outdoor elements including inclement weather, various driving conditions
- Activity: pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, standing, sitting, kneeling, keyboard use, repetitive hand motion, driving
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds on a daily basis
