Position Summary:
The Histology Technician Trainee will be trained to process, embed, cut, and stain specimens for histology. The Trainee is expected to perform assigned laboratory tasks with supervision while developing the necessary knowledge and skills needed to be a Histology Technician.

- Specimen handling and processing; Specimen integrity
- Instrument maintenance
- Data collection and analysis; Special stains
- Regulatory compliance and quality assurance
- Physician and departmental support
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Willingness to learn to operate histology laboratory equipment, instruments and interfaces
- Willingness to learn to perform routine histology (embedding, microtomy, and cryotome) of dermatopathology specimens
- Willingness to learn about Hematoxylin and Eosin staining and cover slipping
- Willingness to learn and practice safety, compliance, and regulatory issues
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Perform general cleaning and maintenance of lab and equipment as directed
- Monitor materials and supplies for inventory purposes
- Able to learn and use computerized systems and LIS according to standard protocols
- Participate in regulatory inspections as appropriate
- Excellent customer service skills

Requirements
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent Required
- Associate degree in laboratory or medical laboratory technology Preferred
