JOB SUMMARY
 
Delivers on University Credit Union’s core purpose of giving the University Community a financial advantage by building and nurturing relationships and programs within designated authority.  Responsible for managing, directing, and coordinating organizational departments (Teller/Member Services) in order to meet the financial services needs of members within assigned market area.  Implements strategies to achieve goals developed for the branch and ensures compliance with operating policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Assists in developing and modifying policies and procedures which enhance service delivery and ensures that operations are completed in accordance with established standards and legal requirements.  Ensures that the duties and responsibilities assigned to respective departmental supervisors are carried out in an effective, systematic, and cost effective manner that will assure maximum member service and service satisfaction.  Supervises, schedules, assists, trains, and appraises personnel.  Completes required reports and records. Performs duties of Department personnel as needed.  Models University Credit Union Service Promises and holds staff (and others) accountable.  
 
 
LOCATION

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages branch location in order to meet the financial services needs of members in assigned market area as follows:
 
a. Works with management in establishing growth, sales, budget and profit objectives for the branch; providing input to these objectives and to the manner in which performance will be measured and controlled. Monitors operating budget to ensure costs remain within assigned parameters.
 
b. Ensures that all office operations are performed in accordance with credit union policies and procedures, either directly or through appropriate supervisor, e.g., balancing, vault cash control, etc.  Makes recommendations for changes/improvements as appropriate.
 
c. Assists members with questions or problems and ensures that they are appropriately informed.  Assists with more complex member services and with any sensitive or particularly difficult issues.
d. Monitors quality of service for members and ensures that employees are maximizing opportunities to sell products based on member need.  Coordinates and participates in business development activities within assigned market area.
 
e. Provides for the proper safety, security, maintenance, and cleanliness of the branch.  Supervises opening and closing of the building and vault.  Ensures that employees receive on-going training on safety, security, and robbery procedures.
 
f. Maintains working knowledge of the credit union’s lending and credit policies.  Serves as a resource to employees and to members. 
 
g. Maintains working knowledge of BSA reporting requirements and ensures branch/department staff adheres to all reporting requirements.
 
2. Effectively supervises branch staff, ensuring optimal performance in service and sales.
 
a. Provides leadership to branch staff through effective objective setting, delegation and communication.  Works with employees to establish and meet branch and individual goals.
 
b. Conducts regular staff meetings, one-on-ones, and formal observations.
 
c. Ensures that staff are well-trained, effective, and optimally utilized and scheduled.  Monitors training needs and implements programs as required in coordination with VP Administration.
 
d. Conducts performance appraisals annually.  Partners with VP Member Services and VP Administration to formulate and implement corrective actions as needed.
 
e. Reviews and approves non-exempt time sheets to include approving all non-work time (sick, vacation, etc.).
 
f. Organizes, schedules, and distributes work among staff and ensures that staffing levels meet member needs.
 
g. Serves as an active member of the branch staff (managing by walking around, coaching in the moment, etc.).  Performs duties of head teller, teller, or financial services specialist as needed.
 
3. Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with Credit Union staff and management.
 
a. Actively supports and promotes UCU core values, mission and vision statements, and staff commitment. Models Service Standards and holds staff accountable.
 
b. Maintains regular contact with other Departments to obtain or convey information and/or to correct transactions.  Promotes positive attitudes in all staff and fosters an environment of collaboration and teambuilding.  Maintains high level of morale at all times.
 
c. Coordinates regulation and policy changes with Branch personnel.  Assists with the implementation and development of teller procedures to be sure they are in compliance with established regulations.  Completes and/or oversees product knowledge and new account training for Branch personnel. 
 
d. Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.  Keeps sales and service reports, submitting periodically to the Vice President Member Services regarding the branch's progress. 
 
e. Assists with development and testing of new products and with month-end audits in the branch environment.
 
4. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
 
a. Stays informed of trends, developments, and regulatory changes in Member Service Department functions to include, but not all inclusive: Bank Secrecy, Anti-Money Laundering, OFAC, and Customer Identification Program. Completes special projects as assigned.
 
b. Ensures that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
 
c. Attends meetings as required.
 
d. Other duties as assigned.
 

Qualifications


KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related area, or equivalent; specialized banking or credit union education and training. National Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) is required within 30 days of active employment with UCU.
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE : Complete knowledge of ACH, direct deposit, Truth in Savings, Truth in Lending, IRA, Consumer Lending, Real Estate Lending, business services, member service and teller functions, Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering Act, OFAC, and all other applicable financial institution regulations.
Intermediate expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
 
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: At least five years of related experience.  Management experience in a consultative sales and service environment preferred.
 
 
SKILLS/ABILITIES: Planning, organizing, directing, and controlling.
Ability to supervise and train others.
Well organized.    
Excellent communication skills.  
Demonstrated consultative sales and service skills.
Good math skills and attentive to detail.
Solid public relations abilities.
Able to use PC, 10-key, telephone.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, & Word)

Physical Requirements
If based remotely, may be required to travel up to 20% of the time to the UCU HQ in Los Angeles, so must be able to travel and move within buildings to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency.  Must be able to operate routine office equipment including a computer, telephone, copier, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on a computer for extended periods daily. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular reliable, and timely attendance that aligns with the pacific time zone.
 
Working Conditions
If working onsite, must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.  If working remotely from a home office, must be able to work in a separate, quiet area, for extended periods on a computer.
 
Mental and/or Emotional Requirements
Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising the highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
