Job Description
Are you passionate about helping others overcome challenges and find their path to recovery? As an Engagement Associate, you’ll play a key role in supporting clients who are navigating the ups and downs of behavioral health and substance use disorders. You’ll use your lived experience to inspire hope, connect clients to vital services, and help them achieve their goals. This is a dynamic, team-based role that blends elements of peer support, crisis intervention, and personalized care coordination – all while working in a fast-paced and rewarding environment. If you're ready to make a difference, this is the job for you!
Who You’ll Work With:
You’ll be engaging with a diverse group of clients, from adolescents to adults to older adults. Whether you’re supporting individuals or their families, you’ll be part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team that’s all about improving the lives of those we serve.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Champion:
  • You’ll work with clients in both inpatient and outpatient settings to make sure their needs are being met and they’re getting the best care possible.
  • You’ll sometimes work directly with parents or guardians to support the entire family unit, ensuring everyone is on the same page.
Peer Support Superhero:
  • You’ll bring your personal experience with behavioral health or substance use recovery to inspire hope and help clients reconnect with their treatment plans.
  • Assist clients with setting and reaching their personal goals, and tackle any barriers that might be holding them back.
  • Be there for clients during tough moments, working to de-escalate crises and prevent future challenges.
  • Help clients tap into their strengths and build on them to move forward in their recovery journey.
Crisis Response:
  • You’ll be quick on your feet in crisis situations, intervening when needed and ensuring clients get the support they need, whether that means working with the treatment team or making appropriate referrals.
Team Player:
  • Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team, you’ll be working to prevent hospitalizations, relapses, and other setbacks, always keeping the client’s best interests at heart.
  • You’ll help develop and refine individualized treatment plans, making sure every client is on the path to success.
Documentation:
  • You’ll keep accurate, up-to-date clinical records and documentation in line with University Health standards, and make sure everything is submitted within 24 hours.
  • Ensure all Release of Information (ROI) documents are handled in accordance with protocol.
Productivity:
  • Meet productivity targets as set by your supervisor, contributing to the overall success of the team.
Continuous Improvement:
  • You’ll help drive quality improvement in our department and ensure that we’re providing safe, inclusive care to everyone.
  • Your actions will promote a welcoming and supportive environment for clients, staff, and everyone you work with.
Age-Appropriate Care:
  • You’ll tailor your approach to meet the specific needs of each client based on their age and developmental stage, making sure to provide care that’s relevant to them.
Customer Service Excellence:
  • Whether you’re interacting with clients, their families, or coworkers, you’ll always present a friendly, approachable, and professional demeanor. Everyone who walks through our doors should feel heard and supported.
Compliance and Training:
  • Stay current on all relevant laws, regulations, and standards to make sure we’re always in compliance with healthcare guidelines.
  • Participate in training and compliance activities as required, always striving to improve both personally and professionally.
CPS Certification:
  • You’ll maintain your Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) credential (or another required certification), completing necessary recertification and continuing education hours as needed.
What You’ll Need:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Strong communication skills—both verbal and written.
  • A passion for working with diverse populations and a commitment to creating an inclusive environment.
  • Lived experience with behavioral health or substance use recovery.
  • Certification as a Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) or other relevant credential through the Missouri Credentialing Board. If you don’t have it yet, you’ll need to obtain it within 90 days of being hired.
  • Reliable transportation is a must.
  • Completion of all required orientation and training within the established timeline.
Bonus Points (Preferred Qualifications):
  • 2-4 years of hands-on experience in behavioral health, coaching, and providing support.
  • Active Missouri Certified Peer Specialist certification.
Why You’ll Love This Job:
  • Make a direct impact on the lives of individuals and families.
  • Be part of a vibrant, supportive, and diverse team that’s focused on positive outcomes.
  • Enjoy a fun and rewarding role where every day brings new challenges and opportunities for growth.
  • Receive professional development and training to help you continue growing in your career.
