POSITION SUMMARY
The Dentist assumes responsibility for providing limited safe dental screening and preventative treatment to children. This includes screenings and ordering of dental sealants and supervising the care provided by the dental hygienist and/or dental hygiene students. Follows established dental standards, procedures, and practices, and gives specific patient care directions to dental and other staff.

LOCATION: Hilo Area (various sites)
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS
- Assist in the development and edits to the dental sealant policy and procedure manual
- Assist with and make recommendations for equipment required for dental sealant program
- Provide supervision to dental hygienists during scheduled dental sealant days scheduled at Department of Education Schools in Hawaii.
- Perform dental assessment of students who have signed consents to participate in the dental screening and possible dental sealant applications
- Diagnose children with any urgent dental problems requiring dental referral
- Order dental sealants for eligible students once examination is completed
- Oversee the application of the dental sealants for proper techniques to assure quality control
- Monitor the billing for dental services (limited examination and sealant application) for those students who receive services
- Review and sign data collected at each school site
- Report to Senior Practice Director any concerns or suggestions for improvement in the dental sealant program process
- Communicate with Hawaii Keiki Administration and Senior Practice Director for scheduling requests for dental sealant days
- Comply with all legal requirements and company policies
- Perform all other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Current Hawaii State Dental license
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- Experience in the professional practice of General Dentistry
- Experience working with mobile dental clinic equipment
- Experience consulting in the health care community in Hawaii
JOB CONDITIONS

- Exposure to communicable diseases, blood and other bodily fluids
- Workdays to include: Per diem, weekdays during the school year. Scheduling is done 1-2 months in advance by the oral health program manager.
