POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs a variety of duties in the Operating Room to assist the surgical team. Assists in caring for the safety and welfare of the patient in the operating room and for the efficient and prompt performance of assignments. Assist in the preparation and care of complex surgical patients ranging from infancy to geriatrics under the general direction of a professional nurse. The Surgical Technologist possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile aseptic technique and combines the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate surgeon’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Associates degree and completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program and a certification as a surgical technologist; OR received certificate prior to 2022; OR employed as a surgical technologist for one (1) year in a health care facility before September 1, 2009; OR, completion of an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the Armed Services of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service. Two years’ Cardiothoracic experience in the Operating Room as a Surgical Technologist is preferred.
