What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coding Specialist position at University Health - San Antonio?
POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Works under the direct supervision of the Coding and Reimbursement Manager, Revenue Integrity Department. Codes Outpatient, Observations and Outpatient Surgery visits utilizing the ICD-10-CM and CPT coding classification systems. Ensures proper assignment and completion of a Diagnosis and Procedure Coding Abstract on all cases. Promotes the Health System's guest relations’ policy. Complies with all Federal and State Regulations and accrediting bodies including but not limited to HIPAA and JCAHO.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- A High school diploma or its equivalent is required. An associate’s degree with Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification or bachelor’s degree with Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification is highly desired and preferred.
- At least ten (5) years of coding experience in professional services, hospital services, or a combination of both is required.
- Experience and working knowledge of Optum eCAC software and Epic EHR.
- Preference will be given to applicants with experience and knowledge of regulatory requirements, Microsoft Office products, and Epic EMR.
