Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, a Pharmacy Supervisor is a valuable member of our team, who provides clinical services to our patient population. The incumbent will supervise personnel who are assigned to work in the main Pharmacy dispensing area, as well as Pharmacy personnel deployed to the units for all or part of a shift. He or she will be expected to assist in the periodic evaluation of staff with whom he or she is in regular contact and routinely supervises. The incumbent will have authority to initiate disciplinary action when necessary. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior communication and organization skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.

Duties of a Pharmacy Supervisor may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervise TH Pharmacists, TH Pharmacy Assistants and other personnel assigned to the evening/night shifts.
  • Oversee and ensure the efficient operation of all compounding and dispensing areas that are under the responsibility of the Hospital Pharmacy Director.
  • Oversee and ensure the efficient integration of the Pharmacy's dispensing operations including, but not limited to, the main dispensing area, sterile compounding area, extemporaneous compounding, batching of oral liquids, and preparation of emergency and anesthesia drug trays.
  • Maintain compliance with all laws, rules and regulations governing the practice of Pharmacy.
  • Effectively coordinate delivery of pharmaceutical care with other Departments and areas that perform direct or indirect patient care.
  • Maintain an accurate and adequate inventory of medications.
  • Performance of other duties as required.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: BS degree in Pharmacy or a PharmD degree. License to practice Pharmacy in New York State, and a current New York State Pharmacist Registration. At least 5 years of hospital Pharmacy experience. At least 2 years of Pharmacy supervisory experience. At least 1 year of experience in sterile compounding and handling of hazardous materials. At least 1 year of experience in use of automated dispensing systems.

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

*The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination .

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position is $133,587 - $162,842 / year.

The above salary range represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate's validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.

Some positions offer annual supplemental pay such as:

  • Location pay for UUP full-time positions ($3400)
  • Evening shift differential ($10,000)
  • Inconvenience pay/supplemental shift differential. ($575)
