Research Director in Precision Health AI Initiative within the Cardiovascular Research Institute and Cardiovascular Imaging Core Lab
A Research Director position is immediately available as part of a Precision AI research program at Case Western Reserve University’sCardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI) being developed in partnership with University Hospitals Harrington Heart and Vascular Institute, Cleveland OH. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Director to oversee the development of cutting-edge AI pipelines that integrate imaging and EKG data with electronic health record (EHR) data on the Azure Cloud platform. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in AI / ML pipeline development, cloud computing, dashboard generation, and deployment to EHR platforms such as Epic. In addition to technical skills, this role requires strong project management experience and proven leadership capabilities to manage cross-functional teams and deliver high-impact solutions. Other ongoing funded projects include automatic image segmentation and analysis of imaging data sets such as CT images, Optical coherence tomography (OCT) and magnetic resonance imaging data sets for precision health applications through the National Institutes of Health.
Key Responsibilities
AI Pipeline Development
- Oversee the design, development, and optimization of AI / ML pipelines for integrating imaging data with EHR data.
- Ensure pipelines are scalable, secure, and optimized for deployment in Azure Cloud environments.
- Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, and clinicians to align AI models with healthcare requirements and best practices.
Cloud and Platform Integration
Manage the deployment and monitoring of AI pipelines on Azure Cloud infrastructure.Lead the integration of AI models into Epic EHR workflows, ensuring seamless usability and compliance with regulatory standards.Dashboard and Reporting Tools
Develop and oversee the creation of intuitive dashboards for visualizing AI-driven insights.Ensure dashboards are user-friendly and tailored to meet the needs of clinicians, researchers, and other stakeholders.Project Management
Define project scopes, objectives, and timelines while aligning with organizational goals.Develop and track budgets, schedules, and deliverables to ensure timely and successful project completion.Identify and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle.Team Leadership
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of data scientists, engineers, and analysts.Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages professional growth and knowledge sharing.Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.Stakeholder Collaboration
Act as the primary liaison between technical teams and clinical / operational stakeholders.Communicate project updates, milestones, and challenges effectively to executive leadership and cross-functional teams.Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).Certification in Azure Cloud solutions (e.g., Azure AI Engineer Associate).Experience with HIPAA-compliant systems and other healthcare regulatory requirements.Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certification is preferable.Experience
2 years of experience in AI / ML pipeline development, with a focus on integrating imaging and healthcare data.1 years of experience working with Azure Cloud services, including but not limited to Azure Machine Learning, Azure Data Factory, and Azure DevOps.Proven track record of deploying AI solutions to EHR platforms, particularly Epic.Experience with dashboard development using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or custom-built solutions.Some experience in project management and personnel management, including team building and mentoring.Technical Skills
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or similar.Familiarity with AI / ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and healthcare data standards (e.g., FHIR, HL7).Strong knowledge of cloud-based data architecture, security protocols, and CI / CD pipelines.Understanding of imaging modalities and healthcare IT systems.Soft Skills
