What are the responsibilities and job description for the ANIMAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN II position at University of Alabama at Birmingham?
Receives continuous training and experience towards acquiring competence in caring for laboratory animals of different species and specialized colonies (i.e., pathogen free, germ free, biohazard, etc.). Assures animal needs are met. Cleans and sanitizes cages, equipment, and space. Collects blood and tissue samples from live mice and rats, gives injections to rodents, identifies rodents by ear punch and/or ear tagging, and applies ear tags to certain species. Performs physical assessments on animals and recognizes signs of illness. Participates in rodent necropsies. Assists in filing and organizing health records for the campus-wide health surveillance program. Maintains computerized records of colonies in quarantine and maintains daily animal and room census records. May transport animals and/or equipment and supplies between buildings and to or from the airport. Perform other duties as assigned.
Hourly Wage: $15.50 (negotiable based on experience)
High School diploma or GED and one (1) year of related experience required.
