Job Description
Position: Full-time, 12-month faculty appointment in an open rank position in the Department of Physical Therapy, School of Health Professions, University of Alabama at Birmingham. Tenure status, faculty rank, and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The faculty member will be responsible to the Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy.
General Description of Duties: This faculty position in the Department of Physical Therapy, School of Health Professions, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Will be responsible for teaching, clinical practice and community engagement activities associated with the Department. Teaching, scholarship, and service should be in areas of interest and strengths.
Responsibilities:
1. Teach in courses within the Department of Physical Therapy
2. Counsel and advise students about their professional development needs, core abilities, and performance
3. Conduct physical therapy clinical duties associated with the Department Faculty Clinical Practice.
4. Develop and implement community engagement programs associate with the Department.
5. Attend all faculty meetings to include strategic planning meetings and clinical faculty workshops
6. Conduct scholarship
7. Engage in other teaching, service, and scholarship activities as related to strengths, interest and Department needs.
Qualifications:
1. Doctoral degree required
2. Eligible for physical therapist licensure in state of Alabama
3. Knowledge of learning theories and evaluation methods
4. Interviewing and counseling skills
5. Compatibility with the philosophy of the Department of Physical Therapy
6. Clinician competence in preferred practice area
7. Ability to apply administrative and management principles in implementation of community engagement programs
Interest in:
1. Continuing education for self and others
2. Excellence in clinical education
3. Scholarship, especially as related to clinical education and its evaluation
4. Maintenance of own clinical skills
5. Participation in community service
Requirements:
1. Work closely and effectively with:
a. other academic faculty
b. students
c. patient/clients participating in Department Faculty Clinical Practice Activities.
2. Ability to demonstrate and maintain effective public relations with community engagement programs.
3. Other duties as assigned by the Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy
Required Qualifications
Physical therapist with doctorate degree and eligible for licensure in Alabama. Should also have the potential for research funding and research collaboration within the university.
