The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking an ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ARCHITECT-ENT to lead the strategic design, implementation, and optimization of AI solutions to support UAB's academic, administrative, and operational goals. Ensures AI technologies are effectively integrated, secure, and aligned with institutional objectives, enhancing student success, operational efficiency, and innovation. Oversees data governance, compliance, and the evaluation of emerging technologies to future-proof the university's AI initiatives. Collaborates with stakeholders across the organization and university to ensure the deployment and integration. May serve as team lead for the AI and Mobile App development team. This position will commit to fostering an environment of heightened security following Information Technology Security Policies and participating in security training, such as Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), on an annual basis.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- AI System Design, Integration, and Monitoring - Designs end-to-end AI solutions including modeling, deployment, monitoring frameworks. Ensures performance and reliability. Oversees and ensures seamless integration of of AI solutions. Monitors post-implementation and ongoing system performance.
- Strategic Planning and Leadership - Participates and leads the development of comprehensive AI strategies and roadmaps that align with university strategic objectives. May serve as the team lead for the AI Mobile App
- Development Technology Evaluation and Innovation - Evaluates and recommends AI technologies, tools and platforms that best fit the organizational direction and the university's strategic objectives to drive innovation and efficiency.
- Vendor and Partner Management Stakeholder Collaboration and Training - Works with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to provide guidance and training on AI solutions to ensure expectations are met.
- Documentation and Reporting - Ensures documentation and reporting of solutions according to technology standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
(Annual Salary: $99,090 - $161,025)
Bachelor's degree in a related field and eight (8) years of related experience required. Work experience MAY substitute for education requirement.
Preferred Experience:
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, particularly their AI and machine learning services. Proven ability to evaluate emerging technologies and innovate practical solutions for complex problems. AI/ML systems design, development, and deployment. Proven track record in leading large-scale AI or data-driven projects, ideally in higher education, enterprise, or a similar complex environment.
