Groundskeeper II

Description
To perform a variety of specialized landscaping functions to maintain and improve university campus
grounds. To use horticultural expertise to ensure the care and health of a wide variety of trees, shrubbery and other planted materials. To assist other team members with special projects and may serve as shift lead in absence of supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS TO INCLUDE:
- Uses horticultural expertise to inspect and care for a wide variety of trees, shrubbery and plants.Trims and prunes plants according to schedule and seasonal requirements.
- Inspects plants, trees and shrubbery for signs of illness or disease. Works closely with grounds specialists to care for damaged materials.
- Determines the appropriate amount and timing to apply fertilizers, soil conditioners, herbicides and pesticides.
- Performs all duties of Groundskeeper I to include mowing, weeding, watering grass and groundcover. Ensures grounds and hardscape areas are clean and free of trash and debris and
- empty trash receptacles.
- Assists other team members with special projects. Actively participates in ongoing department training. Pursues specialized training and certifications to advance expertise. Uses assigned communication device to read and respond to texts and emails. May serve as shift lead in absence of supervision.
- Consistently projects a professional and positive demeanor. Communicates professionally with team members and answer inquiries from visitors and the university community.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Ability to read and write and be able to comprehend written and oral instruction
- Ability to operate riding or power mower and a variety of hand and power tools
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to problem solve
- Attention to detail
Starting Hourly Rate: $15.00- $18.00 (Commensurate with experience & qualifications)
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 2:30p.m. (subject to change to meet the needs of the University).
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED required, and one (1) year of related experience required.
Licenses/Certifications/Registrations:
MVR:
Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle in performance of University business. Current underwriting guidelines include possession a valid driver’s license, issued in the United States; at least 21 years of age; at least three years of driving experience; maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
PERSONAL:
Possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities of this position to include:
- Lifting, moving and carrying a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
- Perform tasks requiring climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, and extensive walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus.
- Working in the rain and in unfavorable weather conditions, hot, cold, wet, etc.
- Working in confined spaces
- Working within extreme temperature ranges
