What are the responsibilities and job description for the NETWORK TECHNICIAN II-ENT position at University of Alabama, Birmingham?
FOR USE BY IT AND HSIS ONLY: The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a NETWORK TECHNICIAN II-ENT to manage moderately complex tasks typically relating to network monitoring, operations, installation and/or maintenance. This position will commit to fostering an environment of heightened security following Information Technology Security Policies and participating in security training, such as Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), on an annual basis.
- Installation and maintenance of Cisco VoIP phone and Cisco gateway.
- Installation and maintenance of network switches, wireless access point, and data connection for end user's devices.
- Installation and maintenance of fiber network.
- Installation and maintenance of APC UPS Backup Battery devices and management interface.
- Installation and maintenance of UAB help phone.
- Will be required to work with Network Engineering, Communication Engineering, and Communication Analyst teams to complete or troubleshoot tasks. Additional duties as needed or assigned. Position is part of team of different level of network technician staff that support over 2329 network devices, 3375 Wi-Fi access points, and 9200 phone sets. This position is required to participate in an on-call rotation and may require overtime hours as needed.
(Hourly Rate: $21.80 - $35.45)
High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferred experience:
Experience with Cisco phones and cisco gateways.
Experience with Ruckus/brocade switches
Experience with user administration of Service Now, Mysoft, and Akips, Crane network management system.
Experience with network test and certification tools such as Fluke, fiber testing devices.
Experience with Telcom testing tools such as Telephone test set and toners. 3
