What are the responsibilities and job description for the Postdoctoral Research Associate position at University of Alabama, Birmingham?
Open NIH-funded postdoctoral research position
Pseudomonas aeruginosa host-pathogen interactions
The Ulijasz lab is committed to mentoring an innovative and motivated individual who has a passion for science and is a team player. You need to communicate well with others and have had experience mentoring other scientists. The candidate will work both independently and also with the PI, other postdocs, graduate students, technicians, and other labs/facilities to accomplish research goals in molecular biology and microbial infection. Our lab uses a variety of biochemical, cell biology, and molecular techniques to answer important questions in the field of microbiology.
This exciting NIH-funded project is focused on host-pathogen interactions of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The project involves interrogating the use of aldehydes by phagocytes as a weapon against P. aeruginosainfection, where we have elucidated several novel genes involved in the sensing and remediation of host (and intrinsically) produced aldehydes. In addition, we are interested in how P. aeruginosa and other Gram-negatives are able to survive intracellularly. UAB hosts a well-funded Cystic Fibrosis Research Center with its own cores and vast opportunities for collaboration and furthering a postdoctoral mentorship.
